Hello,

 

I've been upgrading my home business network and purchased a Jetstream 10 port TL-SG2210MP. I hooked it up to my ASUS RT-87U while I waited for my ER707-M2 to be delivered.

 

The TL-SG2210MP is given an IP address by the RT-87U (192.168.1.x), I can access the web interface, clients get IPs, access to the internet, and it works fine.

 

When I removed the RT-87U from the chain and put the ER-707M2 in its place the TL-SG2210MP stops working and I'm seeing really weird behavior I need help with.

 1. While the TL-SG2210MP boots and the corresponding ethernet ports on the switch flash like there is data being transmitted (it even negotiates proper 100/1000mb/Poe connections by the color of the lights) the switch is not providing IP's to the clients connected to it, nor does the switch have an IP on the Lan, and it's not discoverable. I cannot access it by an ethernet connected PC as it's not providing the PC an ip (network adapter field shows Default Gateway.... : ________ (blank) and is in an unconnected state.

2. I can see the ER707-M2 in the software controller, and my disconnected EAP670 when I'm connected to the ER-707M2 directly, but not the swtich.

3. I've updated the firmware on the switch (4.0.5 Build 20230602 Rel.73473) and the ER-707M2 (v 1.1.0) to the latest.

4. I've Power-cycled the switch, the ER707-M2, and the modem ~5 times.

5. I've reset the switch through the "reset" button ~5 times. None of this allowed the TL-SG2210MP to obtain an IP address or assign IP addressed to the devices connected to it.

6. While there is light activity on the ports, any devices connected to the TL-SG2210MP through the ER-707M2 do not have access to the internet.

7. Devices connected to the ER707-M2 directly get IP address and have access to the internet.

8. If I plug the switch back into the RT-87U it is immediately detected, I can see it as a client in the 87u web interface, and the devices connected to the swtich can access the internet and are assigned IPs.

 

Please help me understand how I can get the TL-SG2210MP to work with the ER707-M2. I'm a bit dissappointed at the moment that a 10 year old asus consumer router is outperforming it, and I must be missing something obvious.

  @Clive_A Came back to report that I fixed the issue.

 

Factory resetting the ER707-M2 and the switch did nothing. I had to go into the ER707-M2 and change the Lan subnet, so from 192.168.0.x to whatever - 192.168.10.x. Then for whatever reason it supplied the switch with a 192.168.10.x address, replacing the locked in 19.168.1.x from the asus.

 

I was able to adopt all devices and now everything is working fine.

Did you set a staitc IP on the SG2210MP while you were using the ASUS?

I think that's the case. When you put the ASUS back, it reconnects to the 192.168.0.0/24 so it can work perfectly.

 

Either set the switch to factory default or change the ER707-M2 from 192.168.0.0/24 to 192.168.1.0/24 if you have configured many devices with static IPs in 192.168.1.0/24.


To reset any TP-Link products, press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds until you see all lights come up and off, which means it is resetting, and wait for it to boot again into factory default.

  @Clive_A Hi Clive, Thanks for the suggestion. I did look in the asus webui and I haven't assigned the switch a static IP, it's set to automatically assign an IP. Is it possible that while the router did not manually assign it, the switch is retaining that IP? I did factory reset the switch several times and It still is not assigned an IP from the ER-707-m2. I'm wondering if the switch is either NOT asking for one, or the DHCP server in the ER707-m2 isn't being requested for one.

 

If the factory reset (holding in the reset button for 5 seconds) isn't working, is there a setting I can configure in the switch that will force it to call for an IP (which it should be doing anyway), or set it to call for a static IP, or any setting in the controller that might allow it to adopt a new IP from the ER707-M2. Some DHCP settings?

 

Because the subnet is different (192.168.1.x) on the asus and 192.168.0.x on the ER707-M2, perhaps setting the ER to 192.168.1.x might work but I'm not hopeful. I can't tell if the issue is with the switch or the ER707-m2

Do you use a controller? A reboot or reset would both release the retained IP address on the switch.

Was the switch adopted by the switch previously? About the static IP address, you can set it up on either the router(DHCP server) or the client(device). So you should also check if the switch is set to a static IP manually. (Fixed IP address).

 

I have not witnessed any cases in my career that the L2+ switch would fail to send DHCP discovery.

I am convinced by my experience that something is wrong with your setup. So, start over and ditch what may cause the trouble. Or try to recall what was configured on your network.

 

I am not sure if you reset the switch successfully or not, but it should get a dynamic IP when it is in factory default.

  @Clive_A I'm with you, I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't request and be assigned an IP either after a factory reset. When I first got it it was visible to the ER-707-M2 and the controller. I tried to adopt the switch in the controller and it kept failing, so that's when I factory reset it the first time. I will try your suggestions though and also factory rest the ER-707M2 which I haven't done yet. Where in the switch web UI can I set it's static ip?
