Hello,

I was hoping for some advice please...My network has the following setup  -

Mobile 4g router -

Ethernet port 1 - IP CAM

Ethernet port 2 - IP CAM

Ethernet port 3 - TP Link Switch 1

Ethernet port 4 - TP Link Switch 2

WIFI - Mobile devices

TP Link Switch 1

- Desktop computer

- TV

TP Link Switch 2

- IP CAM

- IP CAM

- IP CAM

- IP CAM

Recently I added more 4 x IP CAMs and as I didn't have enough ethernet ports in my router, added 2 TP Link switches to the network. One of them connected the TV and Desktop and the other connected to the new CAMs.

Most of the time it works flawlessly but there are times when not only the 4 new CAMs are offline via TP Link Switch 2 but also the router management interface (192.168...) is unreachable from any device wired or wireless and connectivty is fine on Desktop and TV (Switch 2) during these times. It's the combination of these issues that is making me baffled, especially that the router web interface is unreachable from device (which only started happening since switches were added) whether it's wired or wifi as it can bypass the switches.

The TP Link Switches were cheap so I'm wondering if they should be replaced or, if I replace the mobile router with one that has more ethernet ports, or if there's anything else I can do with my existing setup to improve reliability?

Please note ethernet port 1 of TP link switches are dedicated to connect to the router.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @Yandoos

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

Do you get an IP from the switch 2?

If there is no IP, you should consider if you have misconfig on the router port. Or the cable is bad so the link is not established.

This is key to the next step you should take. If the link is not up regardless of the cables you've tested, it could be a bad switch. RMA or consider buying a new.
