Model: EAP772
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.14

Dear Community,

we already created a ticket for this issue (22.5.2025) until today 01.06.2025, we do not get any feedback from the TP-Link Support Team.
Ticket: [TKID250542819]

The issue: we use several TP-Link switches: SG3428XPP-M2v1.2 (os 1.20.11) and SG2210XMP-M2v1 (OS 1.0.10). All those switches are 2.5Gbit/s switches, with 10G uplink ports.

We have EAP772 AccessPoints (one V1 and some with V2 hardware). We identified the issue that the EAP772 V1 hardware, connected to the SG2428XPP-M2 via Cat 7 cable, come online with 2.5Gbit/s, and after nearly 3-5 minutes that EAP772v1 LAN connection falls down to 1Gbit/s. We already read some community comments to this theme, but no final solution. When we connect a 12V, 2.5A power supply to that EAP772v1 AP, the LAN connection is stable with 2.5Gbit/s LAN speed. Interesting is : the EAP772 v2 version is fine with the PoE switch connectivity. So, what does this mean: the SG3428XPP switch provides not enough PoE power for the v1 version of EAP772, or the v1 version of EAP772 has a faulty PoE management?

Can someone please bring light into that issue, because we do not get any answer from the TP-Link support team (ticket is still open)?

Thank you in advance.

  @GRL and all,

today we received the RMA of the EAP772. TP-Link sent us a version 2.0 of the EAP772 back. Now is everything stable with 2.5Gbit/s (same port and network cable, where the version 1.0 was connected).

Therefore: it seems to be a known issue with the version 1 of the EAP772 model, when the AP is pure connected to a PoE+ port (in our case SG3428XPP-M2), then the connectivity is not stable with 2.5Gbit/s, but with 1Gbit/s. If you connect a 12V/2.5A power supply to the AP v1, then the connectivity is stable with 2.5Gbit/s.

Thanks TP-Link for the great support. We can close this post now.

  @MrEnergy

I have seen things like this with cheap CCA (copper clad aluminium) cables - there is too much resistance along the cable run for the POE to provide enough power , and stable power, to the AP for it to negotiate and stay negotiated at its full link speed

Buy better, pure copper cables and install them.

CAT 7 is not really a "real" standard for internal or external use RJ45 cables, and offers no benefit over CAT 6 or 6a - which is much easier to find in its true, full spec pure copper form.  Most CAT 7 you buy online , except from proper cable dealers, is garbage CCA junk and best to avoid it.  Its marketing "oooh, bigger number = better" .  Stick woth the standards.

Even good quality 5e is capable of stable 2.5g.

On one of my remote sites i have a 50m run, POE to an EAP.  I had to buy cheapo amazon pre made cable as it was an emergency (needed installing and fixing on a sunday, i was told about the issue on saturday, so had to get it prime next day).  Im replacing this cable again for something pure copper as it only negotiates to 10mbit when used for POE.

Thanks for your feedback, we used/tested several network cables from Cat 5 till, meanwhile, Cat 8. We do not buy cheap cables. However, first we thought that the same, that could be a cable issue, but when we changed the EAP772v1 with a EAP772v2 version, the LAN connection was stable with 2.5GBit/s (just with PoE). Also, when we connect a power supply to the v1 version, the LAN connectivity is stable with 2.5Gbit/s (therefore it cannot be a cable issue).

It IS a cable issue, sending POE down a cable makes it harder for both ends to negotiate at full speed, and if the cable is marginal, or has high resistance, one or both ends will not be happy and will negotiate down in speeds to reduce the effects of the noise produced by the DC modulated power going down the cable.  Its not a continuite issue, its a cable twist / pair resistance, capactiace and inductance issue.  Getting proper full spec CAT6/ 6a cable that is 100% copper will stop this, unless the run is very, very long.

Dear GRL, in some cases that might be the case, but not for our case. Otherwise, it would not explain why a EAP772"v2" is working fine, same switch port, same distance (no 2m length to switch port) and cable? Also we connected several other 2.5Gbit APs (none TP-Link), this morning, to the same switch port and cable. All other APs were stable with 2.5Gbit. It is just that EAP772"v1" AP. And again, we tested the connectivity with several network cables, 100% copper from Cat5e till Cat 8. Meanwhile we got feedback from TP-Link, that there are working on that issue. It seems that is a knowing issue with the v1 version.
