Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.20.7

While I'm waiting for my 2.5G and 10G SFP+ transceivers and other 2.5/5/10G gear, I decided to start using the SX3008F with my existing SFP transceivers to get going. The SFP transceivers used are TP-Link TL-SM331T(UN) V1.0 (1000BASE-T RJ45).

 

Unfortunately, I got stuck almost right away. 

 

The switch has been successfully adopted into an existing Omada setup and, as far as I can tell, the controller (ER7212PC) has no issues with it. 

Both, switch and router, run the latest release firmware.

 

Here's the problem:


Any of my transceivers on any port I have tried so far, gets recognized and works as an uplink port (to the ER7212PC), but any additional transceiver in any other port does not work. Not even the port indicator LED lights up.

 

I also tried some LC-LC transceivers from another brand, same issue.

 

I've switched the SFP transceivers around and tried them on other Omada devices I have laying around (routers, switches, media converters) to make sure they are fine, same with the cables I used. They all work fine. The issue is 100% with the SX switch.

 

Please advice!

Yes correct. The Port LED goes dark and in Omada SDN, the switch status>Link status shows as "-".

 

I meanwhile discovered another problem and a solution.

 

Additional Problem: when a connected client computer goes to sleep, the same behavior as removing the rj45 ethernet cable from the SFP transceiver: the port LED goes dark and the switch status>Link status shows as "-" and when the connected computer wakes up, the switch never recognizes it again.

 

Solution: I found another thread on this forum called Switch SFP+ port stops working after sleep or shutdown which is similar to my latest discovered problem. In that thread the solution was to downgrade the firmware. I did the downgrade to version 1.20 and all my problems went away.

 

Can you please bring this to the attention of the software development team? Something happened after firmware version 1.20 that causes all kinds of problems in relation to port/SFP/SFP+ connection handling. I hope they will look at it and fix it, because until then I will be stuck at firmware 1.20.

update: the weird behavior continues, but at least there is hope:

 

  • After trying again wih yet another port, the SFP transceiver showed up and I was able to use it as a LAN port as expected.
  • But then, when I removed the ethernet cable and plugged it into another client, the port disappeared again and never came back (Switch status>Link status shows as "-").
  • But then, when I power cycle the switch, the port shows up and works again as expected.

 

Am I missing some setting?

 

PS:

  • all ports are configured manually for "1000M Full". 
  • I'm using Insights>Switch Status to monitor the ports.
  • Before removing/inserting SFP transceivers I power off the switch

When you remove the RJ45 from the SPF to RJ45 interface, and connect a new device, though the other end is auto 1Gbps negotiation, it still displays as "disconnected".

To make a new device work on the port, you have to reboot the switch. Is that what you're saying?
