Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: V2

Hi all,

I am using the TP-Link ER605 router and have configured OpenVPN using the built-in web UI (under VPN → OpenVPN).
I simply downloaded the .ovpn file it generates and use it to connect from my client (tried on Windows, Linux, same result).

Problem:
After the VPN connection is established successfully, it always gets disconnected after about 1 hour of usage — I see that the session times out.
There is no option in the web interface to control the session timeout or set keepalive or inactive values.

What I tried:

  • Regenerated the .ovpn file — same behavior.

  • Tested with different clients — same behavior.

  • Looked for any advanced settings under OpenVPN config — none exposed via Web UI.

  • No apparent settings in ER605 to change max session time.

Question:
👉 How can I configure the router to allow longer OpenVPN sessions (or unlimited duration)?
👉 Is there a hidden setting / CLI option / firmware workaround to adjust this?
👉 Has anyone else experienced this 1-hour disconnect issue with the ER605?
