Model: EAP110-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 5.1.4 Build 20260203 Rel. 10151

Hi,

I  have EAP 110 Outdoor AP that I am trying to configure as Repeater in standalone mode. But is it not extending the existing wireless that I am trying to extend.

The existing wireless is from EAP245 Access Point which is connected to ER605 gateway, also acting as a DHCP server.

Any clients that connect to the extended network do not get an IP address and default to the 192.168.0.100 IP address with no internet access. If I connect the same client to the wireless network of EAP245, they connect successfully, get an IP address and have internet access.

I am running the latest firmware on all three models. EAP245 and ER605 are managed via a software omada controller running the latest version of Controller software.

Can you please support me in setting up the EAP110 outdoor in repeater mode? This issue started after I upgraded the firmware of the ER605 and EAP225 to the latest version. My earlier firmware on ER605 was ER605(UN)_V2_2.3.0 Build 20250428

My Setup

  • Controller Mode (Software Controller - 6.2.14.11)
    • ER605 v2.0 - FW 2.4.5 Build 20260721 Rel.81048
    • EAP225(US) v4.0 - FW 5.2.3 Build 20250709 Rel. 67584 - Wired Uplink to ER605
    • EAP245(US) v3.0 - FW 5.3.3 Build 20250627 Rel. 63801  - Wired Uplink to ER605
  • Standalone Mode
    • EAP110-Outdoor(US) v3.0 - FW 5.1.4 Build 20260203 Rel. 10151

EAP225 Firmware Upgrade breaks repeaters extending WLAN of EAP225
a week ago - last edited a week ago

I now think EAP225/EAP245 firmware upgrade is the issue.

My EAP110-Outdoor which was configured as a wirless repeater extending my EAP225 WLAN stopped working. I also had another third party router configured as wireless repeater extending the same EAP225 WLAN that stopped working as well. So in essence two repeater (one from Omada line and one from unrelated third party) stopped working after the firmware upgrade. The same issue is also recreateble on EAP245 as well.

I see another user reporting the same issue in the below thread but no resolution on this:

WiFi Repeater stopped working when eap 225 upgraded from 5.0.8 to 5.1.6

To check if EAP225/EAP245 is causing issues, I connected the EAP110 as wired Access point on the ER605 and connected my third party repeater to EAP110 WLAN and my clients are able to connect to extended network and connect to internet.

Something in the firmware upgrde on EAP225/EAP245 broke the repeater links. I am not sure of firmware on EAP225/EAP245 before the upgrade.

Can this be investigated by TP-Link team?

Thanks,

EAP225 Firmware Upgrade breaks repeaters extending WLAN of EAP225

Interesting observation is that If I connect my third party repeater to EAP225 WLAN, the repeater itself will get IP (for its management page and uplink/wireless backhaul) but downstream clients will not be able to connect via repeater WLAN.

But when EAP110 tries to connect to the EAP225 WLAN, neither will the EAP110 get a IP (for its management IP/ Uplink wireless backhaul) nor will the downstream clients get an IP.

I observed that third party router uses it own mac to request DHCP lease the uplink/backhaul connectiion. Whereas the EAP110 will use a locally managed mac to get a DHCP lease for its uplink and downstream clients.

It seems the EAP225 does not work if repeaters are requested for DHCP lease on behalf of downstream clients. EAP110 uplink/backual itself is considered as downstream client becasue of the locally managed MAC used in all DHCP packets.

I have detailed packet capture demonstraing the above. Below is working topology where EAP110 is used extend using third party repeater
