Omada Network v6.3 released!

The newest version of the Omada Controller has arrived! Check out the key features below.

Intelligent Anomaly Detection

A feature previously exclusive to Omada Pro Controllers is now live in Omada Network v6.3! Omada Controllers can now categorize network incidents by severity, allowing proactive maintenance and strategic planning.

Incidents are also available from the main controller Dashboard.

Wireless AP Grouping

Configure multiple access points at once with the new AP Group feature! You can now create a single SSID for multiple AP groups

Wireless IDS/IPS

Keep your network secure by detecting and automatically preventing threats like rogue APs and other attacks.

IDS can be set to detect the issues shown below.

Wireless IPS can then either disconnect the offending client immediately or lock the device for a period of time.

Rapid Device Replacement for APs and Switches

Need to swap an old AP or switch? Simply find the old device that needs to be replaced, enter the new device key, and adopt!

OUI-Based VLANs Across Devices

EAPs can now assign VLANs based on OUI (previously exclusive to Omada Pro). Also, Agile Switches are now compatible with OUI-Based VLANs. Note that this requires the firmware of the Agile switch to be compatible with Controller 6.3 as well.

@NeilR_M Hello, very excited for this release! What kind of speed and latency hits are there (if any) when the wireless IDS and IPS features are enabled? Also is the processing for these features completed on the AP or is it mostly via the controller?

@NeilR_M Just noticed that in the OC200 patch notes it says that Wireless IDS/IPS isnt supported on the OC200 (this isn't mentioned in the main controller 6.3 patch notes link for some reason). Does this restriction apply to the new OC200 v3, which has the upgraded specifications similar to the OC220 as well, or is it just v1 and v2 which had the dual core processor?

@angrynerd Hey, thanks for the question. Let me check on this along with your questions from earlier, as it's a valid query. Should have a response for you later today (US time)!

@angrynerd I got the answers to your questions! Please see them below.

1. Regarding the impact that Wireless IDS/IPS has, it'll depend on the AP model, chipset, radio design, and type of detection. WIDS should show very little impact, but WIPS may affect it somewhat. We're currently checking with the testing team to provide a rough range for how much and which models are affected the most.

2. The processing for WIDS/WIPS is distributed between the AP and the Controller. The AP mainly handles wireless-frame monitoring and scanning, detects events, and may carry out the mitigation actions needed, whereas the Controller delivers configurations and handles event logging.

3. The patch notes affect all models of the OC200, including the V3.

@NeilR_M Thank you for your quick response! Its good to hear that atleast the detection shouldn't have too much of an effect. A little disappointing to hear about the OC200 v3, but thats fair.

Re:Omada Network v6.3 released!
Friday

Was the OC220 controller v6.3 firmware pulled for some reason? The link in this posts just takes you to the product support page now. But you can see that the firmware for both v1 and v2 of the oc220 was posted at some point because they still show as links on google, despite erroring when clicked. Just seems odd?

@angrynerd I think it was, let me ask the team that manages it. When I put the link, I swear I saw the firmware on there as well.
