Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.27 Build 20260804 Rel.4241

Hi there,

I have the following setup:

ER7412-M2 v1.3

SG3210X-M2 v1.0 with SM5310-T in 1/0/9 (the only 10G BASE-T RJ45 SFP+ Module in this switch!)

POE380S connected to Port 9 of the switch, providing for a

EAP787(EU)v1.0

Managed by OC220

The setup runs for some time and Omada recognizes and adopts all devices.

After some hours the Wireles connections start to flap i.e. frequent interruptions every couple of minutes.

A permanent ping to the EAP runs smooth. However the permanent Ping to the Switch aswell as to the Router produce timeouts roughly every 15-20 minutes. Then it recovers and it all repeats.

A look in the DDM of Port9 of the switch reports temperature is aroung 95° Celsius. Still Transmit Fault and Loss of Signal is false and DataReady is true.

Is this a general hardware issue in this combination of switch+transceiver? If so, why is the switch on the compatibility list of that transcoiver?

I have changed the connection to a regular 2.5 Gbit port(4) and the connection got a bit better but still there were timeouts.

It seemed to remain a software problem with the WPA2+WPA3 mixed mote of WiFi7

An SSID supporting 6GHz only in WPA3 only mode worked without losses.

An SSID supporting 2.5GHz+5GHz+6GHz with the WPA2+3 mixed mode (which is the only mode available!) caused these losses.

I found out that disabeling 6GHz support of that SSID on the EAP and switching to WPA2 only eliminated these losses.

So is this a software issue or a hardware issue or a combination of both?

Cheers

Rynensis

Hi  @Rynensis

Thank you for posting on the business networking forum.

The SM5310-T module is compatible with the SG3210X-M2. You may refer to the following compatibility list:SM5310-T Compatibility List

Regarding the wireless instability issue you mentioned, please try the following suggestions and provide the relevant information:

  1. Please create a separate 2.4G + 5G SSID with WPA2/WPA3 Mixed, and a separate 6G SSID with WPA3 Only for testing.
  2. Please try disabling MLO and Fast Roaming for testing.
  3. Please note whether this issue occurs only with specific client devices, or with all client devices.

  @Nathan-TP

I have done all of the above. None of it solved the problem.

The issue effected all wireless devices in all VLANs in all SSIDs. Only cable connections were stable.

The SM5310-T module seems NOT compatible with the SG3210X-M2 no matter what the documentation says.

I wrote already that it was beyond 90° Celsius.

Another issue seemed to be the POE380S Injector sullpying the AP. The AP became very hot while the injector stayed cold.

I used a regular powersupply bypassing the Injector and it works... for now... I'll wait and see...
