Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: X

My current Omada Setup is built with, the ER8411 (Gateway), SG3428X-M2 (Main Switch), 2x ES205-GP, and 5 Access Points and external 1x the ER7412-M2. The controller is hosted on my Windows Server.

My question is now, since I'm not too happy with my Synology DVA1622, I want to get a new NVR at some point. Now I asked myself the question if the Fusion Gateway would fit for this.

So can I use the Fusion Gateway in my existing network as "hardware" controller (will this work the external ER7412-M2?) and can I use it as NVR for my TP-Link VIGI cameras (5x S385 4K and 1x S345S 2K)?

Another question I got to it's NVR functionality is if is possible to add a third party OWNIF camera?

And would it be theoretically possible to add the Fusion Gateway just as Gateway to my existing Windows Software Controller?

I know these are many questions but these are things I asked myself when I first read about the Fusion Gateway

Hi,  @Julian2111

Thank you very much for posting in the Business Networking Forum.

No problem at all – we are happy to answer the questions you raised.

Q1: Can I use the Fusion Gateway in my existing network as a “hardware” controller?
A: Yes. The Fusion Gateway is a device that integrates both a Controller and a Gateway. You can use it as a Controller in your existing network.

Q2: Can I use it as an NVR for my TP-Link VIGI cameras?
A: Yes, you can. However, please note that the Fusion Gateway only integrates the Controller and Gateway functions. It is the Fusion Pro series that adds VIGI VMS support, allowing you to manage your VIGI cameras.

Q3: Is it possible to add a third-party ONVIF camera?
A: It is supported, but again, this requires the Fusion Pro series.

Q4: Would it be theoretically possible to add the Fusion Gateway just as a Gateway to my existing Windows Software Controller?
A: No, this is not supported. As mentioned earlier, the Fusion Gateway is not a pure Gateway – it is a converged device. It cannot be added as a standalone Gateway to another Controller.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to reply here at any time.

@Nathan-TP Thank you so much for your reply, that really helped me a lot. But one last question:

On all videos about the Fusion Gateway, I saw the side switcher is missing, that was what my quesiton about the ER7412-M2 was referring to, is it possible to manage remote sides? (Or at least planed to be possible)

Hi,@Julian2111
Thank you for your reply.

This is because the Fusion Gateway is designed as a single-site device and does not support multi-site functionality. As a result, you cannot switch between sites. Due to this design, the Fusion Gateway is also unable to adopt other gateways.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know.

Hi,  @Julian2111

The Fusion Gateway is better suited for small business networks, such as small offices, retail stores, or clinics. Because it's designed for small-scale network scenarios, the design team has no plans to add multi-site functionality in the near term. If your network is a large-scale deployment with multiple sites, the Fusion Gateway may not be the best choice.
