Support IPv6 VLANS and IPv6-only VLANS on Layer 3 Switches and Gateways
It's 2026! We only still need IPv4 for certain legacy equipment. IPv6 with no ARP, NAT, DHCP, is far easier to work with than IPv4. The only thing worse that either IPv4 or IPv6, is the overhead of managing both at the same time! 😅
Ideally Omada Gateways and Layer 3 Switches should support IPv6 addresses (GUA, ULA, LLA), IPv6 routing, AND IPv6 VLANs.
Right now Omada Layer 3 switches support some IPv6 address (GUA, LLA), IPv6 static routes, but not any kind of IPv6 VLANs (for VLAN inter-routing). This means we cannot use the Omada Layer 3 switches for inter-VLAN routing, everything has to go back to the Gateway.
Right now Omada Gateways support dual-stack IPv4+IPv6 VLANS, but not IPv6 interfaces (e.g. for DNS Proxy), not IPv6 static routes, and IPv6-only VLANs. That means although we can create and do inter-VLAN routing via the Gateway, we can't create any IPv6 static routes, e.g. for Kubernetes cluster networks. And our IPv6 VLANs, are force to have IPv4 enabled - which is don't need or want.
The below table is I believe accurate to the current situation. But do correct me where I am missing the accurate information. I noted that it is hoped ULA will be support when 6.4 arrives.
