Looking for a 5-Port Omada Managed Switch Powered by PoE (PoE Passthrough) like Tenda TEG1105PD
Hi everyone,
I'm setting up my home network inside my apartment's main communication box and I'm facing a physical constraint: there are no power outlets available inside the enclosure, and absolutely no way to run a new power line there.
Because of this, I'm looking for a switch that can be powered via PoE (PD) from another room, while also providing connectivity and power to other devices.
Here is what I'm looking for:
- Ecosystem: Fully managed and integrated into the Omada SDN.
- Power: Powered exclusively by PoE (PoE in, no AC adapter needed).
- Ports: 5 Gigabit ports.
- Output: PoE Passthrough (PoE+ or PoE++) on all its output ports to power other devices like APs.
Basically, I'm looking for a device exactly like the Tenda TEG1105PD, but Omada managed.
Does TP-Link have any current models that fit this description, or is there anything similar on the upcoming roadmap?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Rodrigo

@RodrigoTomeES Just checking the specs page, it does say fanless, so I think it's safe to assume it uses the case to help disperse some of the heat. Disassembling the switch will almost surely void any warranty, so that's something to consider as well.
As for switches that do the same with the slim metal enclosure, unfortunately, there isn't another managed switch that fills your requirements. If you're fine with an unmanaged one, take a look at the TL-SG1005P-PD.
I couldn't find any plans for similar models in anything I have access to, unfortunately.

@RodrigoTomeES
A quick search on the website brought this device up; it's powered by PoE and has a max power budget of 64W (when powered by PoE++).
SG2005P-PD | Omada Access 5-Port Gigabit Switch with 1-Port PoE++ in and 4-Port PoE+ out | Omada by TP-Link
However, it only has 4 PoE+ out ports.

@NeilR_M Hi! Thanks for the reply and the suggestion.
I did take a look at the SG2005P-PD, but unfortunately, it is too bulky. Because it has that thick extruded/rugged casing instead of a slim metal shell, it won't fit inside the tight space of my apartment's communications box.
Regarding the ports, I wanted to ask: does it work exactly like the Tenda in that regard? I mean, all 5 ports work as a regular switch for data, but 1 is dedicated to PoE IN (to power the switch itself) and the other 4 are for PoE OUT? If that's how it works, that 1-in/4-out setup would actually be perfect for me. I just need to inject power into one of those 5 ports to run the switch, leaving the rest to provide power and connectivity to the other devices.
Thanks again for your help!

@RodrigoTomeES Correct, 1 is a PoE++ in port, and the other 4 are PoE+ Out. You'd power the switch through port 5, per the screenshot.

@NeilR_M Hi again,
Thanks for confirming! That 1-in/4-out setup is exactly what I need.
Since the current casing is too bulky for my enclosure, do you know if it's safe and possible to use it without the outer shell? I'm wondering if the board relies heavily on that thick casing for passive cooling.
Alternatively, do you happen to know if TP-Link has any plans on the roadmap to release a standard indoor version of this switch with a regular, slim metal enclosure?
Thanks again!
