Bad news this morning. I tried the firmware last night after about 2 hours of use the router froze completely. I had finished listening to music on my smartphone, 10 minutes later my wife said the internet had gone off. No lights were flashing. I could not log into the router as before but this time I could not even use the internet wired or wireless. Interestingly the SYS and WAN light were off and not flashing whatsoever - I had to restart again.

Not sure if the unit is defective, may have to request a replacement. Maybe not related but I thought I would post an update anyway. In contact with TP LINK now. May go for a replacement and see what happens.

I don't understand it because the router receives praise everywhere, especially for BT Infinity users.

I'm sad that not result to you.
To me, still works well.
First, 18 days working properly
Now I have 10 days.
It will be the version? mine is v1.8

As important additional data: (As I did my tests)

1).-As WR1043ND_V1_120405 version had failed.
2).-First i tested the previous WR1043ND_V1_120210
3).-As this too was wrong, I went to the TL-WR1043ND_v1_110712 Russian version (in English).
_ (The Russian version is different from all other)
_ I tried three days, working properly
_ In Russia:

4).-Then, I started using the beta wr1043nv1_en_3_13_11_up(120905).
_ 18 day and 10 day functioning properly
_I've noticed that the Russian version items are not removed , if installing the beta firmware after the firmware Russian

PD: I have also a WR941ND.
I had the similar problems.I installed the Russian version and is very stable.
It seems that the Russians firmware are developed or modified in Russia

Hi Jorge,

This information is interesting. So in short what you suggest is to install the russian firmware THEN use the BETA file which seems to leave some settings intact. I will try this approach. Here is my confusion....

This router hits 4/5 stars with 152 reviews and yet the majority cant sing its praises enough, if you look at the 1 star reviews though it looks like they have had similar problems. Maybe this is just not meant to be. I ordered a replacement but I think I may cancel.

I think the problem is software not hardware.
For the WR941ND,(i forget to say), that I also tried a free firmware v 1.47 gargoyle.
As with the Russian version was very stable

I let you know if I have any success. My router is V1.9 by the way...I understand what you say about 10-18 days without a hitch...in my opinion any restart required that is not user induced is unacceptable. Maybe my standards are high but I want to configure it, leave it, and trust it will work 24/7. Maybe unrealistic? I am not sure.

The first trial lasted 18 days, no fuss.
The restart was for a cut in power grid.
Not because colaps the router.
The second test is in progress

Humm ,This does not give me confidence.
dd-wrt I've tried in WR941ND but did not convince me.
And I know of cases where the router has been like a "brick"

Well the power cut is reassuring. I thought you had to restart manually. Yeah maybe scratch dd-wrt.
