@sheramil

Thanks for your reply.

The desktop failed to obtain valid IP address from the Archer VR1600v that is why it cannot communicate with the local device/internet.

Have you ever contacted the tech support of this device to get any help?

Like hard reset it or setup a static IP for it and verify whether it works.

If still the same, to solve your issue quickly, you can contact the ISP to change a new one and test whether it works well.

Nice day.

I was thinking that this may be the result of a Denial Of Service (DOS) attack.

So I changed the DOS settings on the VR1600v webpage Advanced>Security>Firewall & Virus Protection

from Middle to High for the ICMP, UDP & TCP entries and clicked on Save.

Rebooted the VR1600v

Ran the ping script - all OK

Ran TPG speed Test a couple of times - all OK

System has been running normally for a couple of days, but then it has done for periods of a couple of weeks.

Rebooting the VR1600v most likely changes the dyanmic IP address anyway.

1: i thought this website was the tech support for this device.

2: i set up a static IP, but it didn't make any difference.

3: i have contacted the ISP, they sent me a replacement and the replacement has the same problem.

kind of odd that someone might be DDOSing just us, and only some of the time.

I used DeviceManager to update the LAN driver again and the VR1600v is pinging away very nicely.

I hope that it stays that way.

That would be great; you can take more time to verify its stability.

Any further problem, please let us know.

Good day.

I used device manager, which said my lan driver was up to date.

I went to the Realtek website and downloaded the latest driver, which updated the lan driver to the latest version, but the problem is still happening.

update: end of August, it's still happening. sometimes four reboots are needed before a usable connection appears.

Brief update: I have discovered that rather than restarting my computer, I can disable and re-enable the ethernet card. This has the same effect, and eventually tricks the router into allowing a connection.

Hi Sheramil,

I have had since the last post a couple of times where the connection to the router was losing packets.

Both times the problem went away after I loaded a different version of the LAN driver.

When it happens again I will try your solution.

I had also fired up an old computer and (after reinstalling its software) was able to ping the router without problems.

At that time the Optiplex 9010 LAN (Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network) was dropping packets.

I gather that both the Optiplex & the 82579LM are coming to the end of the support life time,

Do you have similar issues with your system?
