Why did you automatically assume the fault was with the Deco? The fault was with the Ring: https://community.ring.com/t5/Video-Doorbells/TP-Link-Deco-Mesh-WiFi-bricking-Ring-cameras/td-p/460/page/11

@McFly

Yup it was.  I was working closely with ring to get this issue sorted having had about 10 devices go brickshaped in total.

Ring have sorted it , correct. (A few months ago).

But I'm sorry to tell you that even though they did sort it out,  the problem lies in the very peculiar and non-standard way that tp link are implementing 802.11r.

The issue was only ever with tplink devices .

So dont be quick to defend tplink

@thefunkygibbon I'm just defending them from the idea that Deco's brick stuff.

As to 802.11r, are you sure that TP-Link have a non-standard implemention, rather the fickle nature of that protocol?

It's not just Deco's that have a problem with it in general...

@McFly

I'm just going off of what I was told by the ring engineer. He confirmed that.  But If the issue only is only occurring when 802.11r is enabled and only on tplink devices (when there are many other make wireless routers etc which support 802.11r ) then logic dictates that it must be something specific with tplink implementation of it ....no?

@thefunkygibbon Probably. This whole 'fast roaming' thing doesn't seem to be well designed though.

@Kevin_Z

Thanks but that doesn't go to any lengths to explain how tplinks implementation of 801.11r is different to the standard and why there is documented proof that it causes certain devices to brick.
