Deco M5 guest wifi isolation
I finished setting up 3 x Deco M5 yesterday in AP mode because I have an existing wired network with some devices occupying a fixed IP address via my modem routers DHCP.
Wi-fi performance and coverage is fantastic and better than the wired speeds I was getting from ethernet over home power circuit devices.
I created a main and guest wifi using the same SSIDs and passwords as I had before so all existing devices I have tested so far connect without any changes.
This seems to be the only advantage of having a guest wifi feature on the Deco M5. There is no option to isolate the guest wifi to internet access only - which is the whole point of having a guest wifi. In my opinion the Deco M5 is not a feature complete product until a firmware upgrade can address this issue.
Is it on the M5 development road map?
I would have chosen a different product had I know. I assumed a guest wifi feature would work like this.
Anything on my wired network requires authentication to connect but I would much prefer to have the extra assurance of isolating the guest wifi.
I don't want to use the M5 in router mode as there are too many settings on my existing router to replicate and the M5 can't do them all anyway. The Deco M5s run my whole wifi network now. Wifi is disable on the existing devices.

AdrianHi wrote
I did a quick test of the new 1.4 firmware release. I found that in AP mode when connected to the guest network the printer and some files shares on the main network are no longer accessible. Looks good to me
Thanks for adding this isolation feature.
I just edited my Amazon review to explain this and upgraded the star rating from 4 to 5 stars.
Hey Adrian where did you get the 1.4 firmware as I dont see it on the M5 Support download site???

I got a message via the Deco Android app to tell me a new firware release was available and just tapped a button on the screen in the app to install it.

Hello, the 1.4.0 firmware has been withdrawn and not available now, and the new firmware will be released; while the estimated release time is unsure, you can keep an eye on Deco app for updates.
Good day.

@Kevin_Z I have 2 M5 + 2 E4R working in AP mode. Guest wifi isolation is not an available option and is not working. All my devices are accessible from the guest network.
Firmware:
M5(3.0) |
1.4.2 Build 20200116 Rel. 46064 |
E4R(1.0) |
1.1.1 Build 20190917 Rel. 75120 |

@AdrianHi Yes agreed what is said before about the 'issolation' beeing availibe in 1.4* is not true.
When Deco is in AP mode and devices are connected to guest network with issolation option they are still able to access EVERYTHING. This gave me a big scare and a big problem also. I rather had them remove the option in the app for now as I thought my network was protected.
But @Rayray1 reported that this does work for you the issolation? Can you revalidate and or check your version?

Can anybody confirm that this feature is in place in the curent 1.4.7 version? For M4 I see this for the current 1.4.0 version: "3. Added isolation switch for the main network and guest network in Access Point mode". But there is nothing mentioned for M5, I hope they just forgot to add the wording but the feature is there.

@SlavaS Indeed the option is there in the app (Deco M4V2), but it does not seem to be doing anything. I cannot find documentation on what the function triggers. I would really like this option to work in order to isolate my guest network. So far my LAN is fully accessible through the guest network. Right now the option does not seem to isolate at all. I also tried to catch traffic using vlan tag 591. I found this tag somewhere in the logging. Also the backhaul over my lan network seems to be using a VLAN, but I cannot find any documentation on that either. So far, also with the option no success, but maybe I am doing something wrong......

@Rayray1 all firmware updates are installed via the SmartPhone app for the Deco. In the Deco app tap on the envelope icon top right of the screen and look for any firmware update notification messages. Open the message to find the option to start the firmware update.

They are not lying if they say "Added isolation switch for the main network and guest network in Access Point mode". They indeed added the switch...nothing more.
I would prefer it if they would remove the switch as long as it does not do what it says (in Access Point Mode)
