Hello @Kevin_Z

Unfortunately I'm facing also the issue, that the VPN connection is not working. I followed the linked guides, but still not working:

I set up a dynamic dns via tplinkdns, seemingly it works (nslookup command could resolve the address, the IP is visible)

I enabled the OpenVPN server on my AC1200 router, (type: TCP, port: 1194, /w subnet/mask: 10.8.0.0 / 255.255.255.0)

Certificate exported, imported to OpenVPN.

I disabled the firewall.

result: The VPN connection is working only when my PC is connected to the same local network, where my router is. But it doesn't work from a distant network, see my logs:

Sun Aug 23 08:25:36 2020 Attempting to establish TCP connection with [AF_INET]100.66.166.123:1194 [nonblock]
Sun Aug 23 08:27:37 2020 TCP: connect to [AF_INET]100.66.166.123:1194 failed: Unknown error
Sun Aug 23 08:27:37 2020 SIGUSR1[connection failed(soft),init_instance] received, process restarting
Sun Aug 23 08:27:42 2020 WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled.  See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info.
Sun Aug 23 08:27:42 2020 TCP/UDP: Preserving recently used remote address: [AF_INET]100.66.166.123:1194

What I can't understand is that when I try to ping my public IP, there is no response (timeout). Did I miss to set up / configure something in the router?

Thank you in advance!

@gabid

Hi, is there any error message when you try you access the VPN server from an outside network? Kindly show me the screenshot if there is.

Please check the Firewall and Anti-Virus software on the server again: generally, Windows Firewall would block the packages from the VPN Client, disabling the firewall on Windows PC for "public" and "private" network will be helpful. Windows Firewall is located at "Control panel->System and Security->Windows Firewall/Windows Defender Firewall".

Thanks.

@SH4D0WBROK3R

I have the same problem with TP-LINK Archer C1200.
Firmware: 2.0.2 Build 20180118 rel.38979 (EU)
Archer C1200 v2.0
After generating the certificate and exposing it, the VPN works on external devices for no more than a week.
External devices, e.g. smartphone, computer.
I have a static IP address.
I followed the instructions https://www.tp-link.com/pl/support/faq/1544/
I followed the post

Correct time is set on the router, synchronized with the NTP server and correctly set time zone (UTC).

What may be the problem?

PS.

When my VPN stops working, all I need to do is press the Save button and the VPN starts working.(In the meantime, I do not change anything in the configuration!)

@Davidds

I checked one thing.
The VPN does not work after rebooting the rotuer.
Just press SAVE and the VPN works again.

Do you have a solution to this problem?

@Davidds  @SH4D0WBROK3R

Hi, thanks for bringing this up.

May I know if the internet connection on the C1200 is stable? When the VPN connection is broken, are you still getting the internet connection in the local network of the C1200?

Who is your ISP and what is the connection type on the C1200, Dynamic IP or PPPoE? When the VPN connection drops, please log into its web UI and confirm what is the WAN IP address, check and confirm if the OpenVPN still on.

Have you configured the DDNS on the C1200? If not yet, please refer to my previous reply and configure it.

Good days~

@Naga.Ravi

Hi, it is suggested to refer to my previous reply in #15 of this post to configure the OpenVPN on the C1200.
