Archer MR600 Antenna
Hi
ive just got the new Archer MR600 4G router but seem to have strange behaviour when plugging in external antennas.
When i use the supplied antennas I get an ok signal so I thought I would try an external antenna. I’ve tried both a directional and an omni-directional antenna but both lower the signal?
Is there a setting on the router to state you are using a different antenna?
cheers

Hej, jag är inte svensk men kan förstå lite...
I have MR600 also - kind of made my own aerial system. Have the 2 x standard detachable antennae installed outside with weather protection and connected to router by 10m long RG-58 coax cable and SMA fittings. It works OK but signal loss is a bit high as 10m is right at the limit for RG-58. I will probably replace with special low loss coax of same size, or larger RG-11 which has much lower losses.
What annoys me is that TP-Link as far as I can see publish absolutely nothing about aerial installation, despite up-selling the detachable antennae in their sales brochures and website. I have submitted a query - please do the same, it might help if they hear from many!

RG-58 is really not suitable for 4G over 10m length, particularly on the higher frequencies. You get up to 10 dB attenuation on 1.8 GHz (90% of the signal power is lost in the cable).

@SE-Fredd I had the same issue. I own a mr200 and mr600. Plugged external aerial into mr600 speed was poor, plugged into mr200 and back into mr600 and worked perfectly!

I have a MR600 and am somewhat distant from the cell tower - getting 8-10Mb down and about the same up on the included aerials. Plugged in one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01E7CWNSI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (on a 10m mast), aligned it carefully and have regularly got 100Mb down and 20 Mb up across the last 6 months on 4g+. A huawei on the same antenna and cell tower is about half the speed. Definitely worth the investment.
Unfortunately yesterday the MR600 suddenly stopped working, the bunny ears works fine but the external antenna drops the signal to zero. Same aerial in the Huawei gets the full affect (25db SNR). There doesn't seem to be a firmware update recently. Just wondered if anyone else had seen something similar.

@SE-Fredd I use the MR600 with tre SIM in it. I get 75% signal and I see a tower very close. I live in Gothenburg. How did you solve the external antenna situation
