@ahambou

Hmm, telnet seems to be disabled for me. I'm on fw ver 1.0.2 Build 20190917 Rel 71168.

How'd you get the beta?

@robschwieb

It was given to me by TP-Link (support.uk@tp-link.com)

The exact firmware version is 1.0.2 Build 20200115

@ahambou Thanks for you help. With the info you provided and this post below I was able to disable the wifi backhaul. We'll see if this fixes my issues.

Hi Sam,

In regards to your concern I get in touch with our Senior Engineer, the new firmware seems still under tests; I understand your feeling and the needs to get more functions on this unit; while per you know, rounds and rounds tests should be done before release it; It would be better if the firmware can be released sooner, while the capacity/performance of the firmware is more important.

Here is the Beta Firmware of the Deco P9: https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202003/20200324/P9_1.0.2.zip

Deco P9 doesn't support web UI. So you will need to upgrade via local upgrade tool. The local upgrade tool and upgrade instruction is also included in the link.

Thank you.

BTW, doing my discovery I found this /etc/config/plc: root@P9:/etc/config# cat plc config plc 'config' option Enabled '1' option bridgeIfname 'eth0-p2' option MaxRemoteDevices '6' option PlcIfname 'eth0-p2' option PibPath '/etc/plc/QCA7500-REH172_HomePlugAV_NorthAmerica.pib' option VLANEnabled '0' option FwPib_Download '0' option AggrLinkRate '600' option TopoDiscovTimeOut '60' Looks like the PLC is being capped at 600 and not the 1000 as advertised.

Did disabling wifi backhaul solve your issue? I'm asking just for my curiosity :)

I sent my P9 set back to Amazon a few weeks ago and got a full refund.

I am watching this discussion closely as it does seem with some half decent firmware and forcing the backhaul to use powerline, the P9 devices could be a winner.

After ditching the P9's , I tried both the Devolo Magic 2 and Huawei Q2 Pro offerings.

The Devolo Magic 2 was a graded Amazon set and on arrival I discovered the main base unit wouldn't pair with the powerline wifi units angry So that lot was returned.

Next came the Q2 Pro setup. Initially this performed really well, but then one of the units kept losing the powerline connection and struggled to link with the other units over wi-fi. As a result data speeds were appalling and devices kept being disconnected. My old homeplug AV 500 network worked fine using the same power socket. So the Q2 Pros were sent back as well sad sad

At the moment I am back to using the old AV1 standard homeplugs (2 of which provide basic 2.4G WiFi) and and old router set up as an access point (connected via ethernet cable) to provide extended coverage throughout our old house with very thick walls.

I do wonder if these faster AV2 powerline devices are more susceptible to noise from poor wiring, so the supposed faster speed is rarely seen. It is strange that the older powerline units I am using are more stable and less problematic.

@syn3rgy

No need to change the AggrLinkRate value.

If you mean if my issues with the wifi backhaul have been solved after permanently disabling it. Then the answer is yes.
