Worth mentioning that when I change dot from router to access point speed increased a bit but still at max 500 mbps from 250-300 mbps

Hi, sorry for the trouble caused here;

 

I found that you raised a support email, but there may have some misunderstanding regarding to the link speed. 

 

As you know, the wireless link speed of 5GHz on the Archer C7 can up to 1300Mbps, that is true; while it is not the actual 5GHz wireless speed you can get, instead it is the wireless link speed on the PHY layer. Theoretically, combined with interference and obstacles, usually the actual speed is 60% of the wireless link speed of the clients. While it still varies due to the actual network environment.

 

Compared with the current link speed(1Gbps) and the actual speed (500-520Mbps), it is normal; but we can try to change some settings to improve the wireless performance. 

 

First, you can modify the wireless settings, like wireless channel (36/40/44) or channel width(80MHz); and please ensure that the firmware is up to date.

 

And please disable QoS.

Hello, sorry for the inconvenience caused here, if you haven't returned the router, we can do some troubleshooting and try to fix it. 

 

1. What is the current network diagram? With computer connected to the modem directly, what is the speed you can get?

 

2. Change another ethernet cable or ethernet port on the modem to connect it to the TP-Link router.

 

3. With your computer connected to the TP-Link router, please verify the wired/wireless negotiation speed.

Note: For wired link speed, steps are the same, you need click ethernet connection. 

 

4. Please ensure that the firmware is up to date and try to modify the wireless settings to improve its performance. 

 

5. Try to disable QoS to give it a go.

@Kevin_Z with computer connected directly I get full speed and I only have 1 pc connected through lan and then my phone wifi

 

BUt when connected through wifi its 860 mbps as a link speed as image shows

My devices are: 

 

  • iPhone Xs - 2x2 MIMO 867mbps, which I can utilise around 800 Mbps with BT Hub 6. 
  • iPad Pro 11" - 2x2 MIMO 867mbps, which I can utilise around 800 Mbps with BT Hub 6. 
  • MacBook Pro 2015 - built in Wi-Fi capable to 1300 Mbps which I can utilise 800 Mbps BT Hub 6. 
  • iMAC 2018 - built in Wi-Fi capable to 2166 Mbps which I can utilise 900 - 950 Mbps BT Hub 6. 

 

The router in question is Archer C7 AC1750. It should be 1300 on 5GHz yet it is not even close, my devices direct eye sight of the router and I am sitting 2 meters away from the router. 

When I look at the diagnostic tool on my MACs, the router's TX Rate changes between 702 - 720 Mbps, not 1300. If router's TX rate hit to 1300, I believe i can see 876 Mbps and I would be happy with. I have a BT Hub 6, it is 1300 and I can easily see 800+

I can go up to 920-940 Mbps with ethernet cable. 

 

  • I have latest firmware installed 
  • I have tried to change channels
  • Fixed the width 80MHz.
  • QoS default off. 

 

No imporovement whatsoever. 

 

Not everyone avare of all technical mambo jambo, this is how product advertised... 1300 Mbps and nothing else.

Thank you for sharing. I do not believe TP-Link so I try to find answer by myself.

I have read two articles. One is from Netgear:https://kb.netgear.com/19668/Link-Rate-and-Transfer-Speed

The other one is https://www.speedguide.net/faq/what-is-the-actual-real-life-speed-of-wireless-374. This article has explained the relationship between real speed and link speed clearly.

 

I get a conclusion that the maximum real speed is about 60% of your link speed. I think it's not correct that get 800mbps if your link speed is only 867mbps.

@Kunal989 Nope, I returned because tech support admitted that speed on the box is combined speed of all the radios. So it is a scam.

@mohacs I purchased this router recently. Speed is slow and not able to connect to wifi if I go down or if I move at home from one room to other.

I purchased it from Amazon. But, I felt a waste of money.

Please no one purchase it.

when I tested the speed it is 18 MBPS. But,  the internet provides me 100Mbps speed. That is much better.

Well just get on this thread and I see that everyone is facing the same problem and I also have this speed issue.

 

The router is just unable to reach what they annouced (1300 mbps) and I don't know what the internet provider speed has to do with that. If I connect my smartphone (wifi 5g capable) to the router using a speed test app, the internet provider does not have anything to do with that connection as it is a direct connection from my smartphone to the router.

I cannot get more than 866 mbps and I lost much time dealing with TP-Link support and changing the settings all the way as they suggested, if they simply admit that this router is limited to 866 mbps and will never reach 1300 mbps (don't even think about 1750 mbps) we only loose money and not the time we all spend to try to get the unreachable star.

 

I had several TP-Link products and I'm very disappointed with such a fake annoucement but, as said, the worst in this situation is that TP-Link does not admit it.

I bought the Archer 7 V5 to replace my Archer 6 and I got the exactly same product with the same limitations.

 

Wasted money, wasted time and lost trust.
