@Josemi

Good day.

Sorry for the delay.

For the RE200 v3, Since there is no separate DHCP switch on the web interface, so we might need to manually set up the static IP address and gateway in order to disable its own DHCP function:

@Solla-topee

Thank you for your reply.

Of course I know how to config an IP fixed in RE200. When I do that, RE200 is doing a DHCPDISCOVER continuously, and it shouldn't do that, as you can see in DHCP log file I sent to you. Currently I have a IP reservation in my DHCP server, BUT I would like to use the IP fixed option like in your image, instead using a reservation.

Have a nice day.

Hi @Josemi

I hope you don't mind me hijacking this slightly but I'm also seeing the same behaviour on an RE205 V2 when running firmware EU 1.1.0 2019-09-29-rel78177 so I imagine there's a general bug in the shared codebase?

If the device is configured as an AP with a Dynamic IP:  the DHCP server runs unless receives responses from external DHCP packet, in which case it turns it the DHCP server off (sort-of correct behaviour, if you can forgive it starting an unwanted DHCP server in the first place.)

If the device is configured as an AP with a Static IP:  the DHCP server still runs PLUS it keeps making inappropriate DHCP requests every 30 seconds  (very faulty behaviour!)

PS On the RE205 with EU 1.1.0 2019-09-29-rel78177 it's actually far worse than this: that firmware also starts and stops the DHCP server whenever it makes the DHCP requests each 30 seconds, plus seems to be sending packets with the source address of the the router/gateway, which then poisons the ARP caches of other wired devices for 15 minutes stopping them from accessing the router and therefore the internet.  On top of that, the device inherits the old DHCP server configuration options (on, off, auto, etc) from before you update the firmware to this version... but there's no DHCP server configuration panel under network on this firmware so you can't change the settings!  FORTUNATELY I have been able to rewind to a an older version of the firmware without the DHCP server bugs, or the source addressed packets, and that also still has the panel for disabling the DHCP server.  I can't, however, get back the 7 hours it took me to survey the network, identify which device was causing these problems, identify the specific issue, and find workarounds.  I'm not pleased.

EDIT:  It looks like this is a problem across all of these related devices since last year and onwards firmware.  It looks like this requires the attention of a senior engineer for ALL the devices involved.

@Solla-topee

Do you already know if there is a update in the pipeline which fixes this behavior? Otherwise I have to return my device and look for an other one.

@Yairkoren88

Hi all

So I was pulling my hair out trying to get it working as an Access Point (Bridge). I have finally got it working and am sharing in case in helps anyone else.

I upgraded to the latest firmware 1.1.3 Build 20200826 Rel. 66098. My hardware is: RE305 v3.0. I bought this initally to communicate with a Ring doorbell which could only connect via wifi, but I also wanted a better signal on the ground floor (router is on the 3rd floor).

I am running a router (Virgin Hub 3) into the house which beams out WIFI. I take a single ethernet connection out into a Netgear 16 port managed network switch (GS116E - https://www.netgear.com/support/product/GS116E.aspx). DHCP on the Netgear switch is turned off.

All my other wired connections in the house go into the Netgear switch. Initially I had plugged in the RE305 to the Netgear switch (via cabling in the house). This means that the DHCP mode on the RE305 does not detect the DHCP from the Virgin router so auto selects to be "on" and the network gets confused. What I did is to cable the RE305 directly into the Virgin router, bypassing the Netgear switch. I then set the RE305 to obtain an IP Address automatically (Network tab). Then reboot all 3 devices.

So the moral of the story for me - bypass any network switches and plug directly into the router, otherwise the DHCP server will get set ON on the RE305 and stuffs it up. I still think that if there were an option to turn it off rather than it being auto selected may solve a lot of headaches here.

I hope this helps save someone the 2 days that I lost working this out!

@keimias

Good day,

Thanks for your time and patience.

Did you have RE205 V3?

If yes, there is a beta firmware which could help us turn on/ off the DHCP server and please have a check of your message box.

Thanks a lot.

@Josemi ,

We do have the beta for RE200 v3 as well and please have a check of your message box as well for the beta firmware;

Thanks a lot.

@Solla-topee

Thank you

I have installed beta version (1.1.1 Build 20191127 Rel. 47933) in my RE200 v3, I have set a static IP, and it does not flood the dhcp log anymoreyes

I really appreciate that.

I am looking forward final release. wink

Kind regards

@Josemi
Hello, could you please share the firmware ? It seems it is not anywhere on official sites of TP-Link
