Model: Archer AX11000
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20200216 rel.72186(5553)

Recently purchased the Archer AX11000 and have been enjoying the great WiFi range and speed for internal network devices, but I seem to have discovered an issue with the maximum upload through the WAN interface out to the Internet. I have 1000/1000 Mbps service from Verizon FiOS, but that fastest speed I can get from any speed test site is about 600 Mbps, but more usually around 300-400 Mbps. This is with the AX11000 in router mode. Putting it in AP mode, and I am able to get 800+ both download and upload. I ahve tried all versions of firmware released, and they all have the same issue. I have also tried multiple speed testing sites, and the issue is present with all of them. Results are below:

Speedtest.net using old Verizon provided router:

Server: Branchburg, NJ  427 down/865 up

Server: Washington, DC  368 down/862 up

Server: Baltimore, MD  522 down/787 up

Speedtest.net using AX11000 in router mode (3 minutes later):

Server: Branchburg, NJ  302 down/375 up

Server: Washington, DC  442 down/293 up

Server: Baltimore, MD  449 down/316 up

Results were similar with 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 firmware.

I then tried different test sites with the AX11000 in AP then router mode:

Google Fiber Speed Test (AP mode): 723 down/862 up

Google Fiber Speed Test (router mode): 716 down/558 up

Fast.com Speed Test (AP mode): 750 down/600 up

Fast.com Speed Test (router mode): 690 down/490 up

AT&T Speet Test (AP mode): 599 down/888 up

AT&T Speed Test (router mode): 617 down/596 up

I'm hoping there is some resolution to this, otherwise I will need to return the device. I realize the speeds are fast, but I wouldn't want the device to be limiting the speeds that I am paying for. I also tried factory resetting and running it with default settings and just my test device connected, with no improvement. All tests were done through wired gigabit LAN connection.

Right now, the only way to get the speeds that I am paying for from my ISP is to run the AX11000 in AP mode, but I like the parental control feature and don't want to do that. For the tests, QoS, parental controls, antivirus, etc were all disabled, as I was running the tests with the default router settings after a factory reset. Hopefully someone can help.

Last night I let TP-Link support remote in to my network and check everything. They were able to confirm the issue. Connected directly to my modem, I am able to get 900Mbps down and up (service is 1000/1000), but with the AX11000 in router mode, I can only get 900 down/300 up. They tried installing beta firmware with no improvement.

The router had been factory reset for the testing with default settings, all HomeCare features turned off, QoS set to "Standard", all wireless off, and just a single wired laptop connected at 1 Gbps with CAT-5e. TP-Link confirmed the settings of the router were correct, but ultimately could not explain why I'm only getting about 1/3 of my maximum upload speed. The senior engineer said they would forward the issue to the R&D department to hopefully work on a fix. Based on these forum posts though, it seems people have been having this issue for a while with the AX-series routers so I'm skeptical.

It's a shame because I really like the speed and range, and the connectivity seems solid, but I can't keep this router knowing I'm only getting 1/3 of the upload speed I'm paying for.

Hello all

I am also seeing this issue with AX1800 router and AX5700 Mesh. This is an across the board issue with TP-Link and I am returning both of them.

@CHUHY

Hi, are the models Archer AX1800 and Deco X5700? How are they connected to each other? Please delete the Deco X5700 from the network temporarily, and test the download and upload speed from the AX1800, check if you can get a correct speed as compared with that from the ISP modem.

And please be aware that we are discussing the upload speed issue with the AX11000, the download speed is not affected at all, so ensure you are talking about the same issue. If not, it is suggested to open your own thread, then we can discuss it there.

As per the slow upload issue, we have provided some suggestions in the below thread, and we want to know more details, we hope you could cooperate:

Re:Archer AX11000 Slow Uploads

I just purchased this router and see the same behavior. I stumbled on access point mode before seeing this forum. Directly connected to ethernet (whether router is directly connected to FIOS ONT, or connected to the FIOS router) when router is in router mode doesn't net me more than around 600-640 Mbps in the download, and anywhere from 300-600 Mbps in the download. Setting in AP mode with the FIOS router connected to the ONT, i get full 940 Mbps up/down speed on my PC directly connected into the TP Link router. When in access point mode i can't run speed test directly from the router software. But when in router mode, the ~600 Mbps numbers i quoted came off of the router's speed test.

So while i could leave it in AP mode to boost my wifi, i loose virtually all the functionality of a $300 router. In the end, for what it is boosting my speed a couple rooms away, i think im better off with FIOS network extender.

Anyone else have a solution to this issue. Find it unacceptable for months that TP Link is telling people to try a set of steps on their forum which obviously do not resolve the issue. But i sure know that there isn't a lot of value for me having a router that is slower than my FIOS ac router....

@Leo_H This is EXACTLY my Issue rn.

Just got this and setting it up today, everything went smooth and no issues except this!

My upload is running @ 30%!!
I get 1gbps U/D on my Cisco/Linksys but when I connect my AX11000 boom...300mbps up.

This has been going on now for how long w/o a solution!??

Nah, I don't have time for nonsense like this.

I just left the Cisco cause they had issues w/ the guest wifi being incompatible w/chrome and causing issues that they have yet to solve...

Now this. Sucks cause I was really liking it so far...

Hello, have you ever gone through the troubleshooting suggestion we provided in the below post, such as QoS settings in Standard mode and no device in high priority?
