Model: RE300
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.5 Build 20191114 Rel. 34543

Hi! I bought an RE300 about a month ago and started having issues a few days after setting up.

The connection between devices (eg my phone) and extender is fine, but between the router (Virgin Superhub) and extender it is not.

When I turn the extender on, the WiFi works fine...for about 30 minutes. But after that time period, I get an ! symbol on http://tplinkrepeater.net even though the signals for both channels say "strong" and the extender (for both channels) doesn't work. Turning the extender off and on again usually solves the problem, but only for about 30 minutes before it goes again.

I've worked out that the problem is due to the 5Ghz channel because:

If I go into high speed mode with 2.4Ghz router to extender and 5Ghz to devices, the connection is steady 24/7 (but slow and mostly useless.)

If I go into high speed mode the other way, it fails.

If I go 2.4Ghz all around, it works but slow.

If I do 5Ghz all around, the connection fails.

If I have everything on, it fails.

(Worth noting, the 5Ghz channel works fine on all my other devices when I connect directly to the hub, so that isn't the issue.)

So the problem is clearly the 5Ghz channel, but I can't work out why it keeps happening. I've checked for firmware updates but I can't find anything.

Thoughts? Thanks for any help in advance :)

Hello I have the same issue, brand new extender, easy setup, looks everything fine...
but every some hours the 5ghz led turns off and connection is going stop or super super slow

The only way I have is to reboot the extender

is there a solution or I have to send it back?

many thanks

@sgwwifi Yes, the new firmware (2020) has solved the problem.
I recommend you to update the RE300 page and to make downloadable the last firmware, because is the first thing I did, to try to download the firmware, but was obsolete!

ciao ciao

@sgwwifi
Hello again,  I have to update my last comment, and unfortunately I can say that the extender is working better, but still dropping the 5ghz network...

Now it seems it is able to reboot that network, but still it is very annoying and make very difficult to have video calls.
It is a hardware problem or something that can be fixed via a even newer firmware?

thanks

@TP-Link

Hi! Same as above; I updated firmware but the issue is not solved.

It worked for about 24 hours before dropping in and out again. Sometimes it doesn't work at all and I can't connect.

@Luminescenza Hello,

You could do what I do with the RE300, which is to let it just connect to your router on 2.4GHz WiFi and let it generate 5 GHz WiFi itself in parallel with repeating the 2.4 GHz WiFi.

I have found this working very well for me over the last 9+ months.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Tony

@sgwwifi Hello,

You could do what I do, which is to only connect the RE300 to your router on 2.4 GHz alone, and let the RE300 generate the 5 GHz WiFi as well as repeating the 2.4 GHz WiFi.

This has worked very well for me with my Zyxel VMG1312-B10D that only outputs 2.4GHz WiFi, but the RE300 has given me both 5GHz WiFi and 2.4 GHz WiFi range extension.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Tony
