Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 2.1.8 Build 20201225 Rel. 50156

I own a set of three Deco M4R's. I've bought two of them together and one more separately.

Those two that came together I was able to successfully upgrade to the latest firmware.

However, this additional unit I've bought is stuck on (2.1.8 Build 20201225 Rel. 50156).
I started to have some serious connection issues on my Wifi today, so I unplugged all my Deco and did reboots one by one. Only then I noticed that I can upgrade firmware for the two units from the starter pack.

However, this additional unit firmware update is not available in both mobile and web interface.

To make matters worse, when I tried to manually update firmware using the web interface to force Deco M4(EU)_V2_1.5.0_20210511 version, I got an error that I'm trying to apply an older version.
So, I decided to remove my problematic unit, did a factory reset, set it up with a wired connection as a new network - the mobile app doesn't even show "Update Deco" option and the web interface gives me the same error.

All three units are V2 hardware Deco M4R(EU) and this is here's screenshot of their firmware:

My questions to this community/tp-link:

1. Is there a way to force 1.5.0 firmware upon my rogue unit?

2. Have I bought a unit with some weird firmware 2.1.8 Build 20201225 Rel. 50156 - I can't find references to it anywhere?

3. Should I RMA this unit given inability to upgrade firmware?

@TP-Link

I actually got it from one of the biggest online retailers in Poland.
I've bought from them a lot of electronics over years without any issues.
Here's direct link to this unit in their online store:
https://www.electro.pl/komputery-i-tablety/routery-xdsl/routery/tp-link-deco-m4-ac1200-whole-home-mesh-wi-fi-system-mu-mimo-deco-m4-1-pack

Interestingly enough, I checked the box of this unit and there is sticker in Polish: "ISP version", so probably by accident they've sold units that are not meant to be sold in retail.

I'll try to RMA it.

Hi, may I know where did you get the last Deco M4 with firmware 2.1.8 since this firmware is an ISP-customized firmware?

If you got it from your internet service provider, you might check with them whether it could be rolled back to the generic firmware-1.5.0 which is the latest firmware for Deco M4;

If not getting from the ISP, it is suggested to RMA this unit;

Update on the thread.

My store accepted RMA and returned the money.

I picked up a new Deco M4R which now has 1.4.3 firmware - 1.4.3 Build 20200918 Rel. 74289.

My other two M4R Deco's are on 1.5.0 Build 20210511 Rel. 34580.

So, I'm kind of back to square one, but on a different firmware version laugh

@urs

Hi, firmware 1.5.0 has been cancelled from the official websites for further optimization.

Since then, this firmware could no longer be detected via cloud server.

Did you have any issue when two of M4s is on firmware 1.5.0, while the last is on 1.4.3?

if not, it is suggested to wait while for the new firmware upgrade.

Thank you very much.

@Plusz

Hi, it seems like you have got an ISP customized version as well.

May I know where did you purchase the Deco?

It would be better if you could exchange with them for a normal version since the customized version is unable to update the official firmware on the local website.

@TP-Link

I just wanted to confirm that after exchanging to "retail" version and after 1.5.2 firmware got published, all my 3 Deco are on the same firmware.

Interestingly - my problematic unit was also bought in Poland -> Electro.pl, but they immediately accepted return after finding out it shouldn't be sold to consumers.
