Issue Description/Phenomenon:

Some customers may find that the router keeps disconnecting from the internet/modem, the internet LED on the router changes to red/orange, and it will recover automatically after minutes. Manually powering off and then powering on the router can also get the connection back. This article aims to provide solutions to the issue.

Troubleshooting Suggestions:

1. Check and ensure the internet line or ISP modem is stable, bypassing the TP-Link router. Connect the PC directly to the ISP modem (or internet cable from the wall), test and monitor the internet connectivity, and ensure you have a stable connection.

2. If the modem internet is stable, please connect the router back to the network, and ensure the Ethernet cable going from the ISP modem to the WAN port of the router is securely connected. Try with another Cat5e/6 cable or change the port of your ISP modem, to where you're connecting the TP-Link router (if possible).

3. Check and ensure the router firmware is up-to-date.

4. Login to the router web interface when there is no internet, and check if there is still a WAN IP address on the Status page. If yes, go to Advanced > Network > Internet, change the DNS server as follows, then Save and reboot the router to confirm:

5. It's also suggested to clone the MAC address of the computer (or the MAC of the old router) to the TP-Link router if the internet is stable when the computer (or old router) is plugged into the ISP modem directly. Guidance is as follows:

If the disconnect issue persists after checking all the above, it is suggested to comment below and be sure to provide the following information:

1. Model number, hardware, and firmware version of your TP-Link Router.

2. Who is your ISP? What's the model of the modem?

3. What is the WAN connection type on the TP-Link router?

4. What troubleshooting have you done, and what are the results? Send us the screenshots of the Network > Internet page. You can mask the WAN IP and gateway info for security concerns

If you are using a Motorola Surfboard cable modem with two Ethernet ports docsis 3.1, there may be some additional steps. These steps will NOT require you to clone the MAC address of your computer. 1) Power down the tp-link WiFi router. 2) Power down the Motorola Surfboard cable modem 3) Your computer can remain on 4) Disconnect all Ethernet cables from the surfboard cable modem ONLY 5) Keep your computer Ethernet cable connected to one of the 4 LAN ports (blue or black) on the back of the router 6) Keep the Ethernet cable connected to the yellow WAN port on the back of the router 7) Power on the tp-link WiFi router and wait until the lights on the front of the router are lit and the LED corresponding to the port to where your computer’s Ethernet cable is lit 8) At this point or at any time past this point, when , you may launch your computer’s web browser and login to the tp-link WiFi router’s admin page. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1 8) Find the Ethernet cable connected to the yellow WAN port of your tp-link WiFi router and connect the other end to one of the Ethernet ports on the Motorola Surfboard cable modem. 9) Power up the cable modem 10) Now pay attention to the tp-link WiFi router’s home page in your browser. After about 5 minutes you should see the Internet connection status turn green with the word “connected.” 11) if you had a device connected to the cable modem’s 2nd port, you may reconnect it now. 12) if you have mesh extenders, they should all be connected as well. I’ve been able to use this method every time we have an internet outage to make a successful internet connection. My theory is the cable modem is better able to assign IP addresses to connected devices when it first starts up, and can only do so for one of its ports If so, it’s important to power up the cable model last and then reconnect devices to the second port at the end. @PokerDog thanks for the reply, but my modem only has one Ethernet port. It's not a gigabyte modem.

Dumped the ax50 for an equivalent Asus, and everything has been working perfectly since. That'd would be my advice to anyone still having this issue.

Hello, my router is Archer C80 with the latest Firmware (Firmware Version:1.12.0 Build 221010 Rel.35508n(5255))

Everything worked fine until the last couple of days, I started to get that orange LED and lose the internet and it comes back after few minutes by itself, it keeps do that all day.

Pls provide any solution.

@Skillz Have you tried all the basic troubleshooting suggestions we provided in my original post?

If you have already tried all, but the disconnect issue persists, please email support.forum@tp-link.com with the subject [Forum ID 270780] Router Disconnects from Internet. Remember to provide the following information:

1. Who is your ISP? What's the model of the modem?

2. What is the WAN connection type on the TP-Link router?

3. Save and email the System Log on the router (System Tools > System Log). Don't reboot the router, if the internet doesn't recover automatically, please login to the router page, go to Advanced > Network > Internet, click on the Connect/Disconnect to recover the connection on the router.

Yeah i did every step, didn't help actually and sent an email, waiting for response. Also should i switchback DNS settings as it was before or stay with 8.8.8.8/1.1.1.1?

Email received. The support engineers will investigate further. You can stay with the current 8.8.8.8/1.1.1.1 DNS servers.

Hi All

I was experiencing the same error of random disconnects when using:

Connection Mode: On Demand
Max Idle Time: 0

What seems to be working is:

Connection Mode: Time Based
From 00:00 to 23:59

Firmware Version:
1.3.1 Build 20220401 Rel. 57450(4555)

Hardware Version:
Archer AX10 v1.0

Your milage may vary.

Thank you very much for your detailed information.

Can I know when did you purchase this Archer C64, and when does the issue start to happen? Have you ever had a chance to test another router with the same modem, will it also generate stable internet?

BTW, who is your internet provider?

If your provider ensures the modem and internet is pretty stable on their end, or you have already tested with another wireless router and that is stable, please wait and save the system log on the C64 once again when there are internet drops, but please make sure you never restart it, then email support.forum@tp-link.com with the subject [Forum ID 270780] Archer C64 drops from internet, we will have an engineer investigate it further.

Hi have same problem when connection drops and after 1 minute work again. Try all that was in first message still not fixed. Problem starts after 3 monts of using router. Ip Dynamic.
