New record without unplugged status!!
27 hours gone without problems, but routers wireless feature has been disabled all the elapsed time and router is connected to computer with wire.

That does indicate that it is a power to the USB problem.

By switching off wifi there is more power available for the modem.

Try a more powerful, say 2A @ 5v router plug pack. This has solved MR3220 issues like this in the past.

The other concern is some sort of interference between router and modem, but you seem to have discounted that by testing with the USB cable.

I have a very similar problem I think, using the same router (TP-Link TL-MR3220 v2) with a Vodafone Huawei k3806 USB 3G modem. It worked with no problems with the v1 router, but then it jumped off the desk to try a new experience of contact with the floor and got broken, so it got replaced by the v2.
The new router (TP-Link TL-MR3220 v2) is now giving this problem, that it takes long to identify the modem and then says "unplugged" (this often happens), or it says "identified" and "connecting" for some time and then "unplugged" (rare), or says "unplugged" after having been connected for some time (hardly ever).
Firmware is on its latest release (20130423).
After reading here, I think that the problem might really be the USB power, also because I see that the v1 of the router had a stronger power supply (v1 is 12v@1A while v2 is 9v@0.85A) and signal is quite poor (19 to 40%, depending on placement; sometimes the router reports 100%, but i feel it's wrong...). Turning Wi-Fi off doesn't seem to have any influence, so i'm not really sure.
Could anyone clarify?

ML 3220 Frequently disconnects.

I face similar problem where ML 3220 disconnects my USB/3G connectivity every few minutes.

Setup:

Hardware:
TP/LINK ML 3220 v2
3.15.2 Build 130423 Rel.61823n

3G modem: Huawei - E173

Location: India,Tamilnadu,Salem.

ISP: Aircel and AirTel

Test conducted: IN Same office space.

Plugged in Aircel-3G sim card into modem and plugged in modem into 3220 and booted up. The router came up and connected with ISP network and I was able to browser internet.

In 2 minutes I lost the connectivity and when I checked the connection log I saw something similar to

This problem (SIGHUP) keeps happening frequently. I was wondering whether it is power issue or modem issue. After reading this thread I tried disabling WiFi in the router and the problem was still present.

Now I changed the SIM card to different provider. Old (ISP - Aircel) and New (ISP - AirTel). With SIM from different vendor (New), the connection was rock-solid. The router worked non stop with the same 3G modem for at least 12hrs with very good speed before I shut it down.

Aftet this observation, I tried again with 3G-SIM of ISP-Aircel, rebooted the router (selecting appropriate APN/Dial#). The problem of "disconnecting 3g connection frequently" came back.

I was wondering whether it could be problem with 3G-SIM from ISP-Aircel. So I took the 3G modem with ISP-Aircel 3G-SIM and connected to my Laptop and internet was rock-solid and persistent for about few hours. Signal strength of (ISP Aircel) was strong (4bars). I made sure the connection profile details (APN/Dial #) are identical. But still the problem didn't go away.

THis is what my observations are:
1) ML 3220 + Huawei 3G Modem + Airtel 3G SIM : Solid performance - no disconnection
2) ML 3220 + Huawei 3G Modem + Aircel 3G SIM : 3G connectivity is getting disconnected frequently
3) Laptop + Huawei 3G Modem + Aircel 3G SIM : Solid performance - No disconnection.


I am totally lost in figuring out why ML 3220 is not working with Aircel-3G SIM! Definitely interacting with provider has some influence on the reliability of the connection, in spite of having strong signal strength.

No clues on how to debug this further.

Would appreciate any help in resolving this.

Hi,

I happen to have the same issue with MR 3410. With Aircel, I get "modem unplugged". With vodafone, I have great performance. Did you try to use USB Y cable or anything to power up modem externally?

Hi orko,

PMing you is not enabled, you might want to change your settings. Anyway I'll write it here:

If you don't experience the problem when connecting the modem directly to your computer try using Network/MAC clone and clone the MAC of your PC.

If that does not work try leaving APN blank. I read that somewhere though it did not work for me.

Then there's the power issue that a previous poster mentioned. You can read about that here. Try to implement the suggested remedies.

If that does not work, you can try to replace your router firmware with ROOter or Gargoyle as a last resort. I believe you can go back from ROOTer to the original firmware. I've read in their forum that Gargoyle recommends that your router have at least 8 Mb of flash memory and 3220 only has 4 Mb.

I am using a BSNL 3G Dongle in India and the location where I have installed the router with the modem receives 45-51% signal.
I am facing the same issue, where it works fine over lan as well as over Wi-Fi.. however after few hours the status again goes to identifying and then undetected.

I was wondering that rather than using a Y cable to provide additional external 5V DC power supply to the 3G dongle .. can I rather use a 10V 1A power supply or 9V 1.5A power supply for the router itself?

Please suggest.

To change power supply unit won't help improving power supply of the USB port.
Y cable should be better if there is one.
If not, I don't think it deserves to try because it doesn't solve the problem definitely...
