Model: Archer VR300
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

During a storm on Sunday, my ISP supplied Huawei modem appears to have been fried. To get us back up and running I grabbed an AC1200 / Archer VR300 and have at least got connected to the FTTN using the DSL connection. The WIFI is going so the missus can continue working from home – yay!

Next challenge is that there does not appear to be internet through the LAN ports. The home office has a port replicator for the monitors and peripherals, including ethernet, to the laptops. I also need the ethernet for my Google Home mesh WIFI.

I'm sure I just need to tick a setting somewhere to get this going, but I have no clue where to start. Appreciate any pointers! Just let me know if you need some screenshots to assist, and I'll post up later today.

edit: hardware V1.2

  @Skiffiemark

Hi, Normally the Ethernet connection is auto-sensing, and no need for additional configuration.

But there are some relevant settings:

1. Please check on the monitors and peripherals, laptops whether they have been set up static IP addresses before.

2. if not, take the laptop as an example, please check what is the current IP address-How to find IP address on your devices? and whether it is ok to ping the LAN IP of VR300, normally 192.168.1.1.-How to Use the Ping Command

And if no static IP address and PC is able to ping the gateway, please log into the web UI and go to advanced>system tools>back up&restore, back up the current configurations.

Then reset the modem once and set up the internet connection again, leave other settings by default; and check whether the Ethernet connection work or not.

Thank you very much.

  @David-TP Thanks for the reply.

Checking on my Chromebook with LAN connected to a port replicator, I could see the IP address was automatically set.

I tried pinging the VR300 in a crosh session, but there were no results.

I did run the networking diagnostics in Chrome with WIFI off, and the following is the session log in part... MAC addresses obfuscated.

--- Test Routines ---

No routines of this type were run in the session.

=== Networking ===

--- Network Info ---

Name: Ethernet
Type: Ethernet
State: Portal

MAC Address: xxxxxxxx

--- Network Events ---

09/03/2022, 23:01:40 - WiFi network [xxxxxxxxx] started in state Not Connected
09/03/2022, 23:01:40 - Ethernet network [xxxxxxxx] started in state Portal

So the device gets an IP address, but cannot ping back to the router.

Also, using the Tether app on the phone, it shows that the router sees the Chromebook and one other connected device, an ethernet over power adapter which connects my solar inverter to the internet.

edit: I did the backup and reset all settings back to default, rebooted and no luck.

  @Skiffiemark

Sorry for the delay.

Could you please refer to the following picture and change the DNS server under WAN connection:

Advanced>network>internet>internet connections>Modify

By the way, none of the four ports from VR300 could provide internet service, right?

If the DNS changes did not make any difference, could you please send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com with a copy of your network configuration files?

Thank you very much.

  @David-TP

Hi David,

I got onto a live chat with Tp-Link support, and subsequently have replaced the unit. All is working fine now!

Thanks for your follow-up.
