Unable to access FTP server across internet (TP Link Archer D2)

Hello,
I've a TP Link Archer D2 router with a USB drive plugged in. I've enabled the FTP server over internet. I even got an IP address for it.
I'm able to access that FTP server locally.
But when I try to access it over internet using Windows 10, it says cannot connect to the server.
I'm also unable to ping that assigned internet IP address. Is there any other setting to enable?

Use this guide to configure FTP on your router and make sure the IP address you're using for remote accessing the FTP server, is your public IP address, i.e. not in the following list:
- Range from 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
- Range from 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
- A 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255
- A special range 100.64.0.0 to 100.127.255.255 this subnet is recommended according to rfc6598 for use as an address pool for CGN (Carrier-Grade NAT)

The assigned internet address for my FTP server is 172.16.xx.xxx. So it is in this range
- Range from 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
Even the guide you pointed had internet address as 172.30.xx.xxx which also falls in this range.
How to get an address which doesn't fall in this range? Why is this range an issue?

That's your issue actually - you have a private IP address instead of public. The only way to resolve this is to call your ISP and ask for a public IP address to be provided.
The guide I pointed is just an example for configuring the FTP service - you still need a public IP address to be able to access your FTP server from outside your LAN.

Oh. There is no way to do this without calling my ISP?
Thank you for that Wiki article. I didn't know about this.
