Hello,
I am a new fiber customer with SFR in France as my internet provider.
I'm in a house with two floors, each 90m².

I have a fiber box with wifi 5 and on the wifi 5ghz network I have a speed of 300mbit/s against 500mbit/s announced by SFR. So anyway.

My problem is that the wifi degrades very quickly surely because of the location and construction of the house (after 5meters and a wall). So anyway again.

The box is installed in a corner at the top of the house and I have no wifi downstairs. So I wanted to install a repeater in the middle of the top floor. I bought a RE700X which seems to be great. But I can't get a good 20mbit/s speed. It seems that it's linked to the fact that it's Wifi 6 so it's not really compatible with Wifi 5?

What do you advise me to buy to improve this wifi 5 network ?

Thank you very much for your advice

Hi, WiFi 6 extender is also compatible with WiFi5 router, but the wireless speed will be limited to WiFi 5.

At the RE700X location, if you connect a smartphone to the WiFi 5 router 2.4G and 5G, what are the speed you could get?

Then please connect a laptop to the RE700X via Ethernet cable to test speed of the extender(disconnect other wireless clients from the extender), if the extender wired speed is similar as the phone speed getting from router WiFi, it means the extender speed is normal. Then you could test extender WiFi speed as well when you are next to the extender and please also check the wireless link speed between the extender and the wireless client device:

How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client

Please note that the wireless link speed is not real internet speed, and the extender WiFi needs to communicate with the router and client device at the same time, thus the actual internet speed will be reduced.

By the way, what is the maximum wireless link speed your WiFi 5 router supports on 2.4G and 5G WiFi?

Ok I am reassured, I was worried about the opposite

At the RE700X location, if you connect a smartphone to the WiFi 5 router 2.4G and 5G, what are the speed you could get?

When the RE700X is locate at the middle of my first floor (perfect location in app) my speed in 5ghz is about 20mbit/s.

When the RE700X is connected to ethernet cable with the box, the speed is about 300mbit/s like my box.

If you want, I can send screenshot with newer test.

Okay I will try ASAP

Please note that the wireless link speed is not real internet speed, and the extender WiFi needs to communicate with the router and client device at the same time, thus the actual internet speed will be reduced.

Okay, I'm agree with you. But the lack of speed is incredible while I'm connected to the fiber (300-500mbit/s). just a little further away from the box, it goes down fast to about 20mbit/s/, that's so bad.

By the way, what is the maximum wireless link speed your WiFi 5 router supports on 2.4G and 5G WiFi?

It's about 150mbit/s. That's a little weird because I can have 300mnit/s over wifi....

  @Spy20

Hi,

I can't connect to ethernet at the RE700X because i don't have an ethernet port at my laptop.

That's the result of test speed at the location of RE700X

sfr
    2.4ghz : 28.32mb/s
    5ghz    : 126.5mb/s

re700x
    2.4ghz    : 32.91mb/s
5ghz    : 22.70mb/s (on my android the speed of the wireless under option is 433mbit/s

What did you think ?
