Troubleshooting Deco X50-5G Randomly Freeze / Internet Unstable

This Article Applied to
Deco X50-5G_V1/V2
For Deco X50-5G_V1, please make sure the firmware is up-to-date: Deco X50-5G_V1_1.2.1 Official Now Available for Installation!
For Deco X50-5G_V2, please test whether the 1.0.1 firmware here helps: Enhance the Overall 5G network stability for Deco X50-5G_V2
Phenomenon Description:
1. Deco X50-5G randomly turned red then the internet stopped. Users might need to restart/reset to temporarily restore the internet connection.
2. Deco X50-5G remained solid white but all devices randomly lost internet connection.
* Some carriers use 5G NSA(It refers to an option of 5G NR deployment that depends on the control plane of an existing 4G LTE network for control functions). So sometimes the Deco LED is white when the Band is one of the 4G bands(such as B1/B3) but the network type is 5G.
Suggestions:
Feedback regarding 5G router instability from various brands can be found online, which is not dedicated to a single brand. And the 5G network stability is closely related to the current cell network status and the location of the 5G router. The causes of instability differ among SIM carriers, adding complexity to finding a universal solution. Our engineers are actively exploring various approaches and working with SIM carriers to resolve this issue.
The following suggestions are consolidated from previous feedback, aimed at enhancing 5G stability.
- Please make sure the Deco X50-5G is up-to-date.
- Confirm the 5G SIM card is PIN Free.
*In some cases, once restarting the 5G router, the SIM Card status turns to "PIN Locked". If possible, please contact the SIM carrier to unlock the SIM card permanently.
- Switch the Carrier from "Auto" to the specific ISP Profile.
For example, on the Deco APP, please Switch the Carrier from "Auto" to "O2".
If there is no preset ISP profile, please try to create your own APN Profile and manually add the APN details of the SIM carrier.
- (*For Deco X50-5G_V1 only)Enable Cell Lock if you find the 5G network band randomly switching from one to another >> How to Configure Cell Lock on the Deco X50-5G
- Set a daily reboot schedule.
- If possible, add external 5G antennas on the 5G router >>How to install 5G external antennas on Deco
If the 5G router still frequently drops out, you could contact Technical support with the following details to get further assistance:
- Your location and the SIM carrier.

Hello and thanks for the reply.
carrier is Moi mobiili, it uses Dna network here in Finland. I tried with Elisa 5G card also, but same issues.
I will try to capture the logs later this week.

Since I installed some decent Maswell antennas with a frequency range of 600-6000Mhz, the speed is more stable. However, I'm still getting a lot of drop outs where I either have to reboot my PC or I have to reboot the router. This can happen several times a day. Hopefully there will be a update to fix this, otherwise keeping the X50-5G won't be an option.

Hi, welcome to the community.
May I know your SIM carrier?
It would be very helpful if you could help us capture the modem log when 5G/4G network drops out:

Thank you very much.
Best regards.

My version is 1.2.0 build 20241011 Rel. 32926.

You may refer to my forum here to save your time (close to half a year I engaged with them): Deco x50-5G Intermittent Red light of death it seems that this Deco 5G is having an issue and the support team have no idea why. Is your Deco 5G is v1?

@Juusto And yes mine (V1 too) is still going down randomly throughout the day after the update. Unfixed for almost a year now for me since I upgraded from X50-4G (which was quietly pushed to end of life by not being provided any update, a common practice by TP-LInk).
It's incredibly frustrating even when using it with Bridge mode. Still going crazy all day long.

@David-TP Same sort of issues here as others.
Just a few days ago I replaced my 10 years old Huawei 3G router to TP-Link Deco X50-5G and my internet have newer been so slow and unstable. Huawei simply never was unstable I just thought to I get all benefits out of my connection speed about updating to 5G router.
Connection is incredibly slow now and I needed to connect to my phones network to write this. No changes on internet provider or SIM-card since I just put my existing SIM-card to a new device. V1 device here also.
Deco shows a white light as it should be connected to 5G. In Deco app all seems normal and X50 and two X10 are all connected and ok. But the connection doesn't exist or it is soooooo sloooow thet even the simplest pages timeout when loading them. Located in Finland and provider is Telia. Good and speedy internet with my phone and the signal is not the problem.
Readed few support articles here without any help to this problem... Any ideas what to do?

@Lillikoo the best solution I found is returning it while I still can and buying from a different brand.
