Hi. I've been suffering from random disconnects from ALL of my (4 in total) WPA4220 WiFi Powerline adapters.
This has been driving me mad for several weeks now. Tried every solution offered here including trying to disable power save. However, there is no indication that the powersave disable program offered in support will actually work with these adapters (says it is for 511 types). Can anyone confirm this?
How to keep them alive.......!! If I am watching a movie that is streaming from my NAS drive, every 30 minutes or so the movie will stop - giving me a "File not found" message. I then notice that the adapter has disconnected and the only way to get it back is to log off the WiFi connection and then reconnect. It then works for another 30-40 minutes until it disconnects AGAIN! This is very frustrating when watching a 3 hr movie!
I have tried everything to sort this out (I'm a network engineer and I "know" this is a problem with the adapters and not my setup). The ONLY way I have been able to keep the adapter alive is to connect another laptop to the same WiFi point and run a continuous PING to the router.
(Just go to a command prompt and then type "ping -t 192.168.0.1" (assuming this is the address of your gateway router).
I find if I do this then the adapter NEVER stops. It works continuously and properly all the time. It's not an ideal solution but it does prove beyond any doubt that if you continuously "prod" the adapter it stays up.
This is not a permanent solution, I know, but for those of you out there that are tearing your hair out with the disconnect problem it is a short term fix until TP Link get their act together and get this very annoying trait fixed.
I'm running Firmware: 1.2.4 Build 130530 Rel 39308n and Hardware: WPA4220 v1 08EF4015.
It's impossible to tell if the firmware offered in the support section is newer or older than this as the version numbers are completely different. Can anyone enlighten me as to which version is actually on offer in the support download section for the WPA4220? Maybe this problem has already been fixed?
If there are any TPLink bods on here right now.... Can you PLEASE investigate this and get it fixed? I would think that my symptoms and "cure" here points you in the right direction. Failing that, can you provide a specific utility for the WPA4220 that will disable the powersave feature permanently?
I don't think it's that though. Why would the device go into powersave mode when you are streaming with it? There is a LOAD of activity in and out of the adapter going on so why would the device put itself into powersave mode? If it does (and I have no way of testing this) then surely the problem is the detection for the powersave feature. Right now, it looks like it's on a timer! That can't be right.
Please help if you can! Can we have some new firmware here? I'm not the only person with this problem - but I do have a short term fix at least!
I've not yet tried running the ping on the same machine as the streaming but I think that's irrelevant at this point. The fact is that running the continuous ping keeps the adapter UP!
Comments would be useful. Come on TP Link! Loads of users have this issue. You can't deny this.

It works for all models, apparently.
I tried that. I got a DLL error. How about a firmware update TP-LINK. Right now, the device is pretty much unusable.

I have been dealing with this problem for a long time (first with PA411) so powersave is something I tried already. It seems to help somewhat but doesn't eliminate the problem.

On my Asus router web GUI, I set client status of my WPA220 to static and it has not dropped connection since.........keeping fingers crossed!

I have the same problem with my 4 units TL-PA4010. They all have power save off and it does not matter the order I plug them (I have one on the router, one on my desktop, one on my PS3, and one spare).
An interesting thing that I noticed is that when I lost connection to the device connected to the router, if I simply unplug and re-plug the spare unit, the connection comes back.
So, the simple removal and reintroduction of a unit in the network is enough to bring the "dead" device back to life.
Anyone else noticed this?

Hi,
My powerline adapter drops the signal to my smart tv (Connected by ethernet), typically while watching netflix. At this point, my IPad shows full strength signal (connected by wifi) but if I try to connect to a web page, it says not connected to internet. If I re-boot the powerline extender, the connection comes back immediately for both smart tv and IPAD. While I have the problem the wireless from my main router works ok. This is really frustrating. |

That is exactly how I recover from this problem. Re-boot the powerline adapter. Its a total pain, because I have to go upstairs to get to it, and it can happen quite frequently, but when I power cycle it, the signal returns immediately and at full strength !!!
