Model: Archer BE400
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 20241217 rel.40166(5553)

Hi,

I noticed that after a while, my BE400 are acting strange. My BE400 main controller is an Access Point and has EasyMesh enabled. I have a second BE400 acting as a satellite via Wi-Fi.

The problem is after a while it seems there is a network error and the upload starts to acts strange. If I connect products to the satellite, the internet connection suffers, but on the main BE400, everything works. So I suspect it is an issue on the satellite side but sometimes I also have to restart the main controller to restore connectivity, until this happens again after a while.

I also tried changing the Wi-Fi channels but this seems to not improve at all. 5GHz band is set to 160Mhz.

Attached are some iperf reports:

The client machine is connected on the satellite BE400 wired.

  @Joseph-TP

I actually switched the EasyMesh satellite to another brand router using third-party firmware and set to Bridge so it acts as WLAN -> LAN bridge and this issue has not happened. I have also switched the mode from 80Mhz to 160Mhz and the issue also does not happen.

Therefore, the problem seem to be with the EasyMesh implementation on the TP-Link router that sometimes bugs out. For some reason, this problem does not happen with the competing brand. Do note the competing brand I have set it up as a client only. No easymesh. However, I repurposed my TP-Link BE400 satellite and one I have in the 1st floor and the other in the 2nd floor via Ethernet backhaul.

The BE400 does work with EasyMesh in AP mode. It is listed in the UI.

For now, I will keep it this way, altough of course my bandwidth suffers a bit but not by much due to the other router being AC instead of BE, but for now it works and by repurposing the BE400 I now have full signal coverage. All connect with speed of up to 2.4Gb/s on 160Mhz on my devices.

So my setup now looks like this:

WAN -> opnSense -> BE400 (Controller) -> Ethernet to BE400 Satellite -> clients including the competing router working via bridge/station mode.

I will keep monitoring my setup. To recap, the above setup works with 20/40/80/160Mhz and has been stable.

Hi@moisespr123,

Thank you for reporting your issue to our community.

Would you mind comparing the Ethernet backhaul? Compare whether the speed is back to normal?

In addition, please try the following suggestions:

  • Change the 5GHz bandwidth of the main router from 160MHz to 80MHz.
  • Temporarily disable advanced features such as QoS and device priority to eliminate configuration conflicts.
  • Please avoid DFS channels.

If possible, swap the roles of the main router and the satellite router: reset both routers and configure again

Hi and thanks for the reply.

I switched from 20/40/80/160Mhz to 20/40/60Mhz on the 5Ghz band. It was stable for about 2 days but now the issue came back.

Again, it seems that the satellite router throttles or has issues with connectivity after a while, which is surprising because it normally works until the issue starts. The only way is to power cycle both routers so it starts working again between the controller and satellite router.

I am not usigng QoS or device priority. The controller is set to AP mode, so most of the functionalities is disabled anyway.

I chose the normal channels. Not DFS.

I cannot try Ethernet backhaul between the controller and satellite as I do not have ethernet run down to the satellite nor using a powerline is acceptable as it would severely throttle my connection.

Hi @moisespr123,

Yes, you are right. The EasyMesh Is Available When Archer BE400 Work in AP Mode as A Controller.

You mentioned before that you can't connect the main router and satellite router via ethernet backhaul. May I know if you have established ethernet backhaul between the two BE400s now?
If you remove the competitor router, will the satellite router's speed remain normal?

Of course, your current test results seem to meet your usage needs, and you can continue to maintain the current network topology.Sharing your solution will surely be helpful to other users.
