Model: VX230v
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Firmware:  0.16.0 2.0.0 v606c.0 Build 240530 Rel.14033n

I have invested in five EAP225 access points, which are connected using ethernet/backhaul to my VX230v router via a POE switch.  These work fine, but would work better as a Mesh network.

In the VX230 Mesh config, it says you can use this router/modem as the controller.  However, when I try to search for a Mesh device, it slways times out.

I have upgraded the firmware and reset to factory defaults the EAP225 as instructed, but Add Mesh Device always times out.

I've tried both these options with no success

These devices are visible in the VX230v as "Wired" clients, but the scan cannot find them.

I have reserved IP addresses for them so I can bookmark them in my browser.

Any ideas on how I can make these become a Mesh please?

Regards,

Richard

VX230v is a home xDSL modem router which has an Easyemsh implemented.

EAP225 is part of the Omada solution hence -- Omada mesh. They are not compatible whith each other - details.

To have EAP225 in mesh you need an Omada hardware or software controller.

Thank you very much for responding and for the information that you provided.  It was very enlightening.

However, I find this an extremely poor business decision by TP-Link.  Why have THREE proprietary Mesh technologies that are not cross compatible!?

  • Deco Mesh
  • OneMesh™
  • Omada Mesh

Plus, the non TP-link specific EasyMesh.

That is plain dumb and makes no sense at all.  it's very confusing and means that my Omada devices and router cannot work together in a Mesh despite them all being TP-Link devices!  Needless to say, I am not a happy customer now.  Even if I add an TP-Link Omada controller, it won't work with my TP-Link Router, so I cannot set up a Mesh as things stand.  Plus, I really don't want to add another piece of hardware JUST to be able to set up a Mesh when I already have a router that can do EasyMesh.  It seems that the best answer for me is to ditch the EAPs and look for something else that supports EasyMesh (which I can, theoretically, control from my VX230v).

TP-Link needs to unify their Mesh network configs as this is very customer unfriendly and means I'll be getting rid of 5 EAPs purely because they don't support a unified TP-Link Mesh network system.  I really do despair of why businesses such as TP-Link make such poor business decisions and expect to stay in business.  My suggestion is ONE TP-Link Mesh system that ALSO supports EasyMesh.  I am not expecting any payment for this suggestion.  To be honest, I'm not even expecting to be heard by those who have for some incomprehensible reason thought it would be a good idea to have THREE incompatible Mash systems...

Best regards,

Richard

I understand your point regarding different proprietary mesh technologies. Many network equipment manufacturers have developed their proprietary mesh technology as well.

AFAIK what TP-Link does is phasing out Onemesh in favor of Easymesh. Some Deco unts already support Easymesh as well.

Easymesh is a  standards-based approach for creating whole-home mesh Wi-Fi networks.

As for the Omada mesh - it's a proprietary business mesh Wi-Fi networks solution from TP-LInk.
