Model: Deco X50-5G   TL-SG1024D   Deco X50
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Dear Community, I´m struggling to setup what was assumed a simple home network. Grateful for any support on the following:

- home network (wired) using a TL-SG1024D switch

- Deco X50 5G as 5G modem in the 2nd floor acting as main / modem / WLAN in the Deco App network

- adding 2 Deco X50 and connecting via Mesh

-> works all fine, nevertheless not creating reliable WLAN connection in the cellar

-> intention is to switch the 2 Deco X50 WLAN satellites from Mesh to Access Point connecting LAN cables / switch

question:

1. How do I switch the 2 Deco X50 WLAN satellites to Access Point mode using the Deco App? Resetting the 2 Deco X50 WLAN satellites and using the Deco App following https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1842/ and connecting to the individual setup WLAN of the satellite does always end in the App with trying to act in "Advanced" on the registered Deco X50 5G as 5G modem, not on the satellites.

What am I missing here / is there a given detailed process on how to use the App changing X50 WLAN satellites only "forgetting" about the existing main Deco X50 5G as 5G modem?

Cheers+

Florian

Hi, welcome to our community.

As Deco X50-5G and Deco X50s set up a Deco mesh network, there is no choice to only set satellite Deco X50s as AP mode.

Why not connect Deco X50s to the main Deco X50-5G directly via Ethernet cables for more stable connection?wink

And this guide is for your reference: General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco

Thank you and best regards.

@Marvin_S thanks for your reply. A direct connection ist not possible due to distance / location. I could only use my home LAN via Switch. Would this work with the given Switch?

Hi, it should work and you may refer to the network topology below:

If it does not take effect, you may follow Q5 in the guide to troubleshoot.

@Marvin_S awesome, thanks! I thought too complex and did not try the easy / obvious connecting the Deco without App action. Works perfect simply connected to the Switch AsIs
