Model: Tapo C660 KIT
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.3

I recently bought four Tapo C660 KITs with the solar panels, an HB500 hub, and two C200. To get better mesh coverage, we added a TP-Link BE10000 to our current three Deco 20 mesh network. The goal is to have a full view of anyone or anything that approaches our house. Just a week ago, there was a large internet outage in our city that lasted almost two full days. We have 256 g microSD cards in each camera, but not being able to see our cameras completely defeats the idea of them as security cameras.

Is there anyway to access the cameras if our internet goes down? A third-party app? This was very expensive system, and to defeat it, all they have to do is cut our internet lines to the house.

Also, I get notifications after the triggering event is done. We have a driveway that is about two car lengths long. Even with the sensitivity to its maximum levels, I get notice when I am in the garage and closing the door.

I am running the cameras and hub on my guest network. Another issue is that cameras lose connection, and I have had to reinstall them several times. The mesh routers are sometimes within six feet of the cameras. I have moved them about trying to fix the "Network Instability". We do have an older brick house and I understand that that can bounce WI-FI signals.

After spending about 1,000 dollars, I am not pleased with the Internet being its Achille's heel.

Tapo camera's detection and local recording feature still functions when the internet or even the WiFi is down.

When the internet connection is lost, you can access the camera to watch live stream or the stored videos in the Tapo app when the phone is connected to the same WiFi as the cameras.

If the WiFi signal is also lost, then you can only access the stored videos by reading the microSD card in the camera, if that's the video storage the camera has chosen, but the live stream is not available in this case.

Note: When the camera is configured to store videos on a Tapo hub, the data is transmitted over Wi-Fi. If the Wi-Fi connection is lost, the camera will stop recording unless a microSD card is installed. In that case, the camera will switch to storing videos on the microSD card until the connection with the hub is reestablished.

@Wayne-TP Thank you. I was so worried that we bought a system that would not work for us. The cameras are currently on the guest Wi-Fi network for safety. I am the administrator and stay on the main mesh Wi-Fi network. I am not that savvy on Wi-Fi. Is it safe to have the cameras on the main Wi-Fi? Using the guest network required me to connect the HB500 via Wi-Fi, not with an Ethernet cable.

It sounds like I must change networks with my phone to view the cameras during an Internet outage and/or speed up notification of something triggering the cameras. I bought security cameras because I am more paranoid than I may want to believe. I even set up an IoT Network for the cameras, but the cameras didn't see that network. Am I at the point where putting everything on the same network will work much better?
