IPv6 support for both the VPN Server and VPN Client
Hello TP-Link Team,
I want to request IPv6 support for both the VPN Server and VPN Client on the Archer AX10 (V3, firmware 1.3.2 Build 20251125).
My ISP uses Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT) on IPv4, which is becoming very common now since IPv4 addresses are running out. My router gets a WAN IP in the 100.64.0.0/10 range so its not reachable from outside. But I do have a fully routable public IPv6 address. The problem is I cant use it for VPN because the firmware only supports IPv4 for all VPN features.
Here are the specific issues I found:
-
VPN Server (WireGuard/OpenVPN): The server only listens on IPv4. There is no way to make it listen on IPv6. So the VPN Server is completely useless for anyone behind CGNAT.
-
VPN Client (WireGuard): The Allowed IPs field rejects IPv6 input like ::/0 and shows "Invalid format" error. The Endpoint Address field also rejects IPv6 addresses. So I cant even set up an outbound tunnel over IPv6 to work around CGNAT.
-
Dynamic DNS: The built-in DDNS only registers IPv4 WAN address. There is no option to register an AAAA record with the IPv6 address.
Because of all this, the VPN Server and Client features are completely non-functional for anyone whose ISP uses CGNAT. This is very common in India and many other countries now. Customers who bought this router for its VPN features cant use them at all.
What I am requesting (either approach would work):
Option A: Add IPv6 support to the VPN Server so it can listen on the IPv6 interface and be reachable over IPv6 directly.
Option B: Add IPv6 support to the VPN Client so it can connect outbound to an IPv6 endpoint. This would help with reverse tunnel setups to bypass CGNAT.
Also updating the DDNS client to support AAAA (IPv6) record updates would be very helpful.
I know the newer models like BE400, BE800, BE900 already have IPv6 VPN support. Please bring this to the AX series as well. The hardware is capable, it just needs a firmware update.
Thank you.
