I need a new router for the car for travelling and i'm interested in the m8550.

at my cabin i use an x50-5g. Would the m8550 be comparable in performance? Would it be able to fully replace the x50-5g?

would be a lot easier if i could leave the x50 at home, configured as backup for when my isp fails

Hi, welcome to the community.

Deco X50-5G and M8550 are comparable in 5G mobile performance. In the WiFi specification, there would be some differences:

Deco X50-5G:

M8550:

Moreover, they also support different advanced features. If your Deco X50-5G is V1, there would be ECO mode, DoH/DoT, and HomeShield service kit.

So it would be better to use Deco X50-5G for the Home network and save M8550 for travel on the road.

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

 

I see i was perhaps a bit unclear. I use the x50-5g at home as backup, but i bring it along when i go to my cabin so i have wifi there.

On the drive over there i use a mobile router my isp gave me but it's in need of a replacement.

 

So i was wondering, if i get the m8550 to replace it, if it would also be sufficient to use in my cabin so i don't even have to bring along the x50.

 

From your reply i see the speed should actually be better for the m8550 (though ofcourse the 5g speed will matter a lot too)?

 

would there be any reason to still use the x50 instead at the cabin? are there big differences to wifi range, or ability to handle multiple devices well? or anything else in the x50's favor?

the x50's advanced features are great at home, but less important for a week at the cabin. mainly looking at regular wifi performance for a chromecast, a few tablets and a few phones
