Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.9.0.0.9.1 v0001.0 Build 260108 Rel.60787n

Dear TP-Link Team,

Greetings and best regards.

I would like to submit the following feature request for the TP-Link TL-MR6400 and the TP-Link Tether app.

Feature Request: Remote Wi-Fi Control When All Wi-Fi Networks Are Disabled

Currently, TP-Link Tether does not allow the last active Wi-Fi network to be disabled. It displays:

“Keep at least one wireless network enabled to use this app. To disable all networks, please go to the web management page.”

I would like to suggest adding an optional “Remote Wi-Fi Control” feature.

When enabled, users should be able to:

Turn off all Wi-Fi networks through the Tether app.

Keep the 4G/mobile Internet connection active.

Keep remote management through the Tether app available.

Turn Wi-Fi back on remotely when needed.

Users who do not need this feature could leave “Remote Wi-Fi Control” disabled.

This would allow users to turn off Wi-Fi when it is not needed while keeping the TL-MR6400 online and remotely manageable.

I believe this feature would make the Tether app more flexible and useful for TL-MR6400 users.

Thank you very much for considering this feature request.

Best regards,

Ahmad

Hi,
In your situation, please try disabling Wi-Fi on your phone and using mobile data. Then log in to the Tether app, control the router remotely, and check whether you can change the router's Wi-Fi settings or disable the Wi-Fi networks.
Best Regards

Hi Solla-topee,

Thank you for your reply.

Just to clarify my feature request: I would like the Tether app to allow me to remotely turn off all Wi-Fi networks on the TL-MR6400 while keeping the 4G/mobile Internet connection and remote Tether management active.

I would also like to be able to turn the Wi-Fi back on remotely later, without needing access to the router's web management page or being physically near the router.

Could you please confirm whether the current Tether app already supports this functionality when the phone is using mobile data? If not, could this feature be considered for a future Tether/firmware update?

Best regards,

Ahmad

  @Ahmad2750

Hi,
The TL-MR6400 currently supports remotely turning off Wi-Fi networks via the Tether app. If you already have a TL-MR6400, we recommend doing a test with the router and the Tether App. Please feel free to reply with any updates.
Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Hi Solla-topee,

Thank you for your reply. I followed your recommended test exactly. I disabled Wi-Fi on my phone, switched to mobile data, and accessed the TL-MR6400 remotely through the Tether app.

However, when I tried to disable the last active Wi-Fi network, Tether displayed the following message:

“Keep at least one wireless network enabled to use this app. To disable all networks, please go to the web management page.”

Therefore, the test confirms that I cannot currently turn off all Wi-Fi networks remotely through the Tether app, while keeping the 4G/mobile Internet connection and remote Tether management active.

Since you mentioned that the TL-MR6400 currently supports remotely turning off Wi-Fi networks via Tether, could you please clarify whether turning off all Wi-Fi networks remotely while keeping the 4G connection and Tether remote management active is actually supported?

If it is supported, please provide the exact steps or settings required to perform this function. If it is not supported under these conditions, please confirm this clearly.

Thank you for your clarification and assistance.

Best regards,

Ahmad

Hi,
There are no special settings required to disable the router's Wi-Fi band in the Tether App. Currently, the Tether App supports remotely turning off the router's Wi-Fi network, but not all Wi-Fi networks.

Regarding your feature request, would you please explain why you'd like to disable all Wi-Fi networks on the router for evaluation?

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Hi Solla-topee,

Thank you for the clarification.

The reason for my feature request is not simply for testing purposes. I would like to be able to temporarily turn off all Wi-Fi networks on the TL-MR6400 when Wi-Fi is not needed, while keeping the 4G/mobile Internet connection and remote Tether management active.

The main reason I need this feature is that I am often away from the location of the router and do not have physical access to it. Therefore, I would like to be able to remotely turn the router's Wi-Fi off and back on through the Tether app, without needing to be physically near the router or access its web management page.

This would allow the router to remain online and remotely accessible while its Wi-Fi networks are completely disabled. Later, when Wi-Fi is needed again, I could remotely turn it back on through the Tether app.

I understand from your clarification that Tether currently supports turning off one Wi-Fi network, but not all Wi-Fi networks simultaneously. Therefore, my request is specifically for Tether to support remote control of all Wi-Fi networks (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) while maintaining the 4G Internet connection and remote management.

I believe this would be a useful feature for users who are away from the router's location and need to remotely disable or re-enable Wi-Fi while keeping the router online.

Thank you for considering this feature request.

Best regards,

Ahmad

Hi,
I understand your request to remotely turn all Wi-Fi networks on or off on the router. However, could you please explain why you would prefer not to turn the Wi-Fi networks on/off through the router's web UI?

If your concern is that you can't access the router's web UI remotely, the following instructions will help.

@Solla-topee

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I would like to clarify my request to avoid any misunderstanding.

My request is specifically about using the Tether App, not the router's Web UI.

I am often away from the location of my TL-MR6400 router. Therefore, I would like to be able to use the Tether App over my phone's mobile data to remotely:

1. Turn off all Wi-Fi networks on the TL-MR6400 while keeping the 4G/mobile Internet connection active.

2. Keep remote access to the router through the Tether App available even when all Wi-Fi networks are disabled.

3. Turn all Wi-Fi networks back on remotely through the Tether App later.

The important point is that I may be physically far away from the router and therefore cannot access it locally or use its Wi-Fi connection.

I understand that Remote Management through the Web UI may provide another method of accessing the router. However, that is not the feature I am requesting.

Could you please confirm whether the current TL-MR6400 firmware and Tether App support this exact functionality? If not, I would appreciate it if this request could be considered as a feature enhancement for future firmware/Tether App updates.

Thank you for considering this feature request.

Best regards,

Ahmad
