Early Access Archer BE550 V1 Supports Guest and IoT Network Extension via EasyMesh, VPN Merge, and More
Hello everyone!
We are pleased to announce the latest firmware update for the Archer BE550 V1, which introduces a range of new features, especially significant enhancements to the VPN Feature and EasyMesh Network usage.
We encourage all users to upgrade to the latest firmware and share your feedback. Your feedback remains invaluable - please share your experience to help us continue refining our products.
Download the update now and explore all new features!
New Features/Enhancements:
1. Enhanced VPN feature
(1) VPN Merge
We have officially upgraded the previous VPN Client feature to the new, more powerful VPN Merge. This optimization significantly improves your network flexibility. With VPN Merge, you can now connect different devices on your network to multiple VPN servers simultaneously. For example, your work laptop can connect to a corporate VPN while your smart TV uses another VPN for video streaming. To use this feature, simply enable VPN Merge, add your desired servers to the Server List, and assign them to specific devices in the Client List.

(2) VPN Kill Switch
The VPN Kill Switch improves your network security. When you enable this feature for a VPN server, it will continuously monitor the connection status. If your VPN connection drops unexpectedly, the Kill Switch will immediately block internet access for all devices using that VPN. This protection remains active until the connection to the VPN server is safely restored, preventing potential data leaks.

(3) Other Enhancements:
- Supports DDNS synchronization during OpenVPN server configuration.
- Add third-party VPN support when configuring the VPN Client: IPVanish, PureVPN.
2. Enhanced EasyMesh Network
(1) EasyMesh Traffic Separation (*Extend Guest Network)
We have introduced the Traffic Separation feature within the EasyMesh R3 protocol, enabling the synchronous extension of the main router's Guest Network capabilities to satellite devices. This enhances the security of your main network.

(2) Guest/IoT Network configuration synchronization
The introduction of these two features further enhances the performance of EasyMesh satellite units.
(3) EasyMesh Client Binding
EasyMesh Client Binding allows you to pin specific devices (e.g., smart TVs or IoT sensors) to a designated EasyMesh node, preventing unnecessary roaming and improving connection stability for latency-sensitive or stationary clients.

(4) EasyMesh Satellite Node Binding
EasyMesh Satellite Node Binding allows you to manually specify which upstream node a satellite should connect to.
3. ECO Mode V2
The new ECO Mode Feature is designed to help you save power intelligently. You can select the default Smart ECO mode, which automatically adjusts power consumption based on your real-time traffic usage and turns off the LEDs. This minimizes the impact on your regular internet activities while reducing energy use. For more personalized control, you can also choose from several other power-saving modes and even schedule them to be active only during a specific time period.

4. Admin Password Recovery
We have introduced new methods to recover your local administrator password, ensuring you never lose access to your router's settings. You can now choose between two secure recovery options. You can enable and configure these options under System > Administration.
(1) Security Questions
Set up answers to predefined security questions. This allows you to verify your identity and reset your password quickly.
(2) Email Recovery
Configure a designated email address and your own SMTP server to receive password recovery instructions directly to your inbox.

5. Advanced USB Feature
We have upgraded the USB Sharing feature with two powerful new management tools. First, you can now perform a Disk Scan to verify the health of your connected drive. This can be triggered manually or scheduled to run automatically at regular intervals for proactive data protection. Second, we have integrated a Format function, allowing you to format a USB drive directly from the router's interface without the need for a computer. These features provide greater convenience and control over your network storage.

6. Backup & Restore
We have significantly upgraded the router's backup functionality for greater control and security. You can now perform a Selective Backup, allowing you to choose specific configuration modules to save, such as Network, Wireless, or Security settings. Additionally, you can now encrypt the backup file with a password, ensuring your sensitive configuration data is protected from unauthorized access.

7. DHCP Detection
To help you troubleshoot common network issues, we have added a DHCP Server Detection tool. Having more than one DHCP server active on a network can cause IP address conflicts and prevent devices from accessing the internet. This new one-click tool allows you to scan your local network to easily identify any other active DHCP servers, helping you resolve conflicts to ensure a stable and reliable connection.

8. Guest Network Exception Button
Add a button to the Access Control whitelist that does not apply to the Guest Network. When enabled, the allow list mode will not affect the Guest Network. All devices in the Guest Network can connect to the internet.

9. New features on Tether App
(1) Added support for TSS (TP-Link Simple Setup) Auto Discovery & Quick Configuration of Tether App.
(2) Added support for QoS (Quality of Service) configuration within the Tether App.
Other Enhancements/Bug Fixes:
(1) Optimizations of IPv6 Dial-Up Methods and Functional Experience.
(2) Enhanced system security, stability, and performance.
Firmware Download:
Before the Upgrade
(1) Please be sure you have read the Beta Test Agreement before upgrading the pre-release firmware!
(2) For the sake of insurance, it's always recommended to save a copy of the router's Backup Config file before upgrading or downgrading.
(3) This pre-release firmware for Archer BE550 V1 is available for all versions (EU/US/AU/CA/etc).
(4) You may follow the guide to upgrade the firmware of your router. How to Upgrade the Firmware on the TP-Link Wi-Fi Routers.

Hi,
You may need to enable traffic separation first. I haven't actually tested what happens when it's disabled, but I enabled traffic separation right away and the Guest Networks are available on my satellite router.

Hi this is genuinly a step forward.
I have the V1 BE550 as my main router but all 7 of my satellites are Archer AX1800. Witth the IOT mesh to these devices?
I notice in the images shown in the guid page, the AX55 is shown and it's in the same range as the AX1800 which can have IOT as a standalone but before I go and try the upgrade I want to know if the AX1800 will work?
Hi,
If I am not mistaken, as of today only the following of the "Archer" routers have received firmware updates that add support for the expansion of the Guest and/or IoT networks to EasyMesh satellites:
BE550 V1 and V2
BE800 V1
GE550/GE650 V1 (only IoT networks)
AX55 V1 (only Guest networks)
So, the Archer AX1800's will not be able to expand the IoT network.
Yeah I was worried this might be the case but I also hoped that it was only the main router (mesh controller) that needed the update as other routers are able to to handle IOT on their own. Also AX55 is not listed in the screenshot below from this forum but I did upgrade the FW and I cannot see any IOT/Guest on my satellites so it looks as if going by the list and including the AX55 (would be good to see where the AX55 is listed), TP-link have only added it to 15 differemt models and probably only 9 different models if you exclused V1/V2 etc.

I bet they release more than 15 new models since the feature request/complaint was rasied in November 2024.
I hope I am wrong but swap out my 7 satellites for different models is really not worth it, especially as I am slowly moving away from WIFI IOT devices to Zigbee,

Thanks for the link. I wasn't aware that so many of the Wi-Fi 7 routers already support it.
The Archer AX55 V1 was actually the first router model on which TP-Link implemented some of the newer EasyMesh features.

woozle is correct. To extend the Guest and IoT Network via EasyMesh, both the main router and the satellite nodes must support the new features.

OK this is not usable at the moment as I have 1x BE550 as the main router and 7 AX1800 satellites. Having 7 BE550 would not be cost effective as its getting into the Deco cost range.
Do you know if the AX1800 is even planned/capable of being updated?

Agree with this. It seems you have a very large house.![]()
What is the specific model number of the AX1800? You can check it on the router's bottom label.

They are all AX1800 V1.2
There is the BE550 and 3x Satellites in the house and the remaining are spread over external buildings all via Ethernet BackHaul

Hello Kevin,
just a heads up, i updated the satellite (ethernet backhaul) to 1.3.1 and everything was ok but when i updated the main router to 1.3.1 the satellite started turning its wifi networks on and off, with sifting channels when on and the wireless clients unable to connect to it (the wired clients were working just fine). Also only the middle lights in front of the satellite were lit. This kept going on for sometime until i turned off the mlo network on the main router. Then after a couple of minutes everything went back to normal. Since then i have the mlo off (too afraid to try to turn it back on and not actually neccesary since i can now bind my pc to the main routers 6ghz wifi) and everything seems fine. One last observation, when something reboots (router, satellite or both) now it takes a few minutes for the mesh (satellite) to update the networks after it boots, when with 1.2.1 fw it was almost instand.
One plus point i don't see the dropped filecopy speed either way (pc to router or router to pc) which was a problem with all official 1,2.x firmwares (i don't know about the 1.2,4 as i did not try it) but it is still early days as this used to appear after a few days with the previous firmwares.

Regarding this unintended behavior, could you please confirm more details?
1. What is the previous firmware version of both BE550s before you installed this 1.3.1 pre-release version? Are they both on 1.2.3 or 1.2.1?
2. What devices were connected to the MLO Network before the update?

Does this mean the two BE550s take minutes to connect to each other and build up the mesh network?

That's good to know. Please keep monitoring the connectivity.![]()

Hi Kevin,
Both routers were on fw 1.2.1 and at the time of upgrade no client was connected to the MLO. Onlyy one pc used to connect to MLO (win 11 fully updated with an intel B200 nic used as htpc) but of course it was shut down. The update was performed through my main pc wired to the satellite in my office as my main router is placed high on a library in the living room.
As far as the reboots concern, both routers boot up, the lights in front become a steady line on both, the lan ports clients function immediatelly, the wifi on the main router starts and functions properly, but on the satellite the wifi networks fluncuate for a couple of minutes changing channels and then stabilize with the correct channels and only then its wifi networks are available to clients. With 1.2.1 fw as soon as the satellite booted its wifi networks were on with correct channels and available (just like the main router). Do note that now the 2.4 and 5GHz IOT networks are on and propagated to the satellite as well, when before they were off in the main router. Also as i said previously, now the MlO is off when it use to be on. The backhaul is a lan 2.5gbps connection on lan port 2 for both units.
Concerning the filecopy issue i check it on a weekly basis. So far so good but i am on week 1. You do remember that this issue was resolved with a 1.2.1 beta firmware, but somehow the resolution was lost on the next 1.2.x updates.
