Model: Deco X60
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.6.12

I have a extremely frustrating situation. I have seven deco (4 wired + wired base) around my house but the stickiness of Deco is so annoying.

so IoT devices connect to a far away unit and then keep getting signal drop but does not roam to a unit literally standing next to it!! Some connect randomly to a far unit and stick and do not roam to new ones.

Even for mobile moving I have enabled fast roaming but still it sticks to a far unit and then audio video drops.

atleast for IoT devices I need the ability to manually fix it to a specific deco unit but I do not see that option !! It is so frustrating as multiple IoT keep disconnecting due to this.

I have about 30 to 40 clients some wired, majority wireless.

can anyone help on this please.

Hi,
Usually, if your Deco nodes all support the connection preference feature, you can set a client to prefer connecting to a specific Deco and Wi-Fi band. Below are the instructions.
Specified Connection on the Deco App: Set Your Signal Source

If you can't find this feature, please make sure your Deco App and Deco firmware are up to date. You can also go to the main Deco's web UI > Advanced > System > Firmware Upgrade, tap Check for Update, and send us a screenshot of the version information so we can verify whether the Deco nodes support the connection preference feature.

Best Regards

Thank you for your support.

As per Deco app on iPhone they are all at latest... and that is the issue, I am not getting the option to "Specified Connection"

When I press Check for Upgrades on the webUI .. the screen just logs out!! and in browsing web ui it keeps signing out and almost on every clieck a lot!

Below is the list of units that I have...

X60(3.0) -> 1.6.12 Build 20260513 Rel. 20500. <- Main Unit

X60(3.0) -> 1.6.12 Build 20260513 Rel. 20500
X60(3.0) -> 1.6.12 Build 20260513 Rel. 20500

X60(3.0) -> 1.6.1 Build 20250912 Rel. 53642
X60(3.0) -> 1.6.1 Build 20250912 Rel. 53642
X60(3.0) -> 1.6.1 Build 20250912 Rel. 53642

X50 -> 1.8.0 Build 25102213 Rel, 4370

i have about 20 clients connected all over the house plus 10 on IoT. and my range increases to 30 clients normally.

My main challange is the IoT clients keeps connected to very far away units!!!

Hi,
Some of your Deco X60 V3 units do not have the latest firmware. You can download firmware v1.6.12 here and manually update it via the Deco's web UI.
How to Update TP-Link Deco Firmware

Before you log in to the Deco's web UI, please reboot the Deco nodes and check whether you can stay on the web UI.

After the firmware updates, please check whether the Specified Connection option is available in the Deco App for your client devices.

Best Regards

Hi,
If your Atif Bedroom, Boys Room, and Ground Lounge Deco X60 are running hardware V3.0, you can refer to this post to download and update the firmware manually via the Deco's web UI.

Hi,
As you can see in the attached picture, the Deco X60 with firmware  v1.6.1 is V2.0 rather than V3.0; they are different hardware versions.

Your Deco X60 V3.0 and X50 V1.0 support the Specified Connection feature, but the Deco X60 V2.0 does not, so you are unable to see this option in the Deco App for your client devices.

You can refer to the thread below to learn more about roaming on a Deco network. Generally, Deco provides roaming suggestions when a client roams to a Deco with a stronger signal; however, whether it roams depends on the client, as it has its own roaming threshold set by the manufacturer.
Get to Know Fast Roaming / Seamless Roaming on a Deco System

In your situation, if you want to connect an IoT device to a specific Deco, after confirming the IoT device is connected to the desired Deco, please go to the Deco App > Online Clients > tap the IoT device > turn off the Mesh Technology option and see whether this helps.

Best Regards
