Model: Deco BE63
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.7 Build 26050612 Rel. 29931

I have my primary local ISP connected via Ethernet to Port 1 of my main Deco, and I set up a secondary Starlink Wi-Fi network under the 'Internet Backup' feature with the proper credentials so it can automatically switch over during an outage. However, the failover behavior is very inconsistent: the Deco takes an unusually long time to detect that internet access has dropped, and instead of connecting to the backup, the app frequently prompts me to configure the backup connection again, even though it is already set up, tested, and known to work. Any suggestions or fixes for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
If the main Deco doesn't connect to the secondary Starlink Wi-Fi network when your local ISP connection drops, please confirm whether the Starlink Wi-Fi network works with your phone or other Wi-Fi clients. If so, it's recommended that you contact the technical support team for further assistance.

Alternatively, you can provide the following information about the reported issue for analysis.
  1. Please describe your network diagram in detail. How many Deco nodes do you have? How do they connect? Do your Deco units work in Router mode?
  2. When the local ISP connection has dropped, is it still connected to the main Deco's port? How do you confirm that the Deco takes an unusually long time to detect that internet access has dropped?
  3. If the Deco App requests to configure the backup connection again, please go to the Deco App > More > Advanced > Internet Backup page, and send us a screenshot of the Hotspot Backup page.
  4. If you configure the backup connection again, does the Deco work?

Best Regards

Hi, my Starlink connection is working fine. I tested it through the Deco app and the results are normal.

Here are the answers to your questions:

1. Please describe your network diagram in detail. How many Deco nodes do you have? How do they connect? Do your Deco units work in Router mode?

The Deco units are operating in Router mode. I have three Deco BE63 units in total, and they are interconnected via wireless backhaul (Wi-Fi).

2. When the local ISP connection has dropped, is it still connected to the main Deco's port? How do you confirm that the Deco takes an unusually long time to detect that internet access has dropped?

Yes, the Ethernet cable remains plugged into the main Deco's port when the connection drops. To test this, I physically disconnected the fiber optic cable from the ISP router. I waited for about 10 minutes, but the Deco never detected the outage or triggered the failover.

3. If the Deco App requests to configure the backup connection again, please go to the Deco App > More > Advanced > Internet Backup page, and send us a screenshot of the Hotspot Backup page.

(Attach your screenshot here if applicable / "Please find the requested screenshot attached.")

4. If you configure the backup connection again, does the Deco work?

The Deco network continues to work, but the Internet Backup feature still fails to engage.

Additionally, when testing the backup connection, it never switches back (fails back) to the primary ISP connection.

Hi,
Just to double-check: when the ISP router has no internet connection, does the Deco App show that the main Deco is successfully connected to the Starlink Wi-Fi on the Hotspot Backup page?

If so, please try to reproduce the reported phenomenon, then follow the instructions below to collect the Deco system log and send us the Deco App log for analysis. Please reply to us once you have sent the Deco App log.

Test 1. (Failed to failback to primary connection)

  1. Primary ISP connected to Ethernet port 1 of the Deco BE63 was disconnected at 18:00.

  2. During this test, the backup internet with Starlink worked for Wi-Fi devices, and after 10 minutes, the Ethernet-connected devices on the Deco started working as well.

  3. Upon restoring the ISP connection to port 1 on the Deco at approximately 18:17, the Deco never switched back to the primary ISP connection and remained on the Starlink backup. By 18:24, it was still in the same state, so I had to reboot the entire network to force it back to the ISP connection.

  4. At 18:27, the Deco network rebooted and everything returned to normal: Decos connected via the ISP on Ethernet port 1, with Starlink remaining as the backup.

Test 2. (Everything worked as expected here)

  1. Primary ISP connected to Ethernet port 1 of the Deco BE63 was disconnected at 18:35.

  2. During this test, the backup internet via Starlink worked properly.

  3. Upon restoring the ISP connection to port 1 on the Deco at approximately 18:37, the Deco successfully switched back to the primary ISP connection.

  4.

Hi,
Thank you for the information provided. Based on your feedback, the Deco's Hotspot Backup Mode does work correctly at times. Have you tracked the frequency with which the phenomenon observed in "Test 1. (Failed to failback to primary connection)" occurs?
Best Regards
