Chromecast won't connect to YouTube etc. when I enter Primary/Secondary DNS in DHCP page

Region : UnitedKingdom
Model : TL-WR841N
Hardware Version : V9
Firmware Version : 3.16.9 Build 150104
ISP : Virgin Media
My Chromecast works perfectly (including YouTube, iPlayer etc.) when I leave the Primary/Secondary DNS in the DHCP page empty. But when I specify the DNS of my Smart DNS provider in the DHCP page, the Chromecast is no longer able to connect to YouTube, iPlayer, etc. I can still cast the screen of my Nexus 7, and the Chromecast still seem to be able to pick up pictures from my online Google+ account to use as background images.
To be clear, I am NOT blocking the Google DNS in Advanced Routing > Static Routing List.
Any idea what is going on? As far as I understand the Chromecast should simply disregard the Primary/Secondary DNS I set in the DHCP page and keep using the Google DNS. I assume it is an issue with the router because there are plenty of success stories of Chromecast+router set up this way... thanks.

What's the DNS server showing on Status page of WR841N? Connecting to modem directly, what's the DNS obtained?
What's the DNS you put in manually?

What's the DNS server showing on Status page of WR841N? 194.168.4.100 , 194.168.8.100
Connecting to modem directly, what's the DNS obtained? Sorry I don't understand. If I log in the model Web page it doesn't show a DNS.
What's the DNS you put in manually? 185.37.37.37 , 185.37.37.185

Connecting PC to modem directly, can you access internet? Go to check IP address, DNS server obtained on your PC.

Thanks. I'll do it tonight and report back.To be clear, no other device (PCs, tables, Vonage) has an issue with the current configuration, only the Chromecast and only when casting YouTube etc.

Hello Ada. If I connect directly to the router the DNS is the same, 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100.

Hello again. I was wondering if somebody can help with this issue. I seem to have the exact same setup which works with many others Chromecast owners but it doesn't work for me - maybe a bug in the TP-Link firmware?

you know chromecast must connect to the Google sever, so I suggest you change the DNS sever from 185.37.37.37 , 185.37.37.185 to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 then test again,

Thanks hawkkk. Happy to try but I need the other computers/tables to use the DNS servers 185.37.37.37 , 185.37.37.185 so I'd be back to square one with the setting you recommend. I purchased the router specifically to be able to change the DNS servers at router level.
Also according to several Chromecast users, who use specific DNS servers at router level, the Chromecast disregards whatever DNS servers are specified at router level and still connects to the Google servers. Why isn't it happening with my router? Thanks.

I just upgraded my old Linksys WRT54GL to an Archer C7. Like you, I use Chromecast in conjunction with Unlocator. I can use Chromecast if my DNS settings are untouched. I can use Unlocator with their DNS settings. But I can't cast with Unlocator's DNS settings. I have tried both Static Routing and Access Control to bypass Google's DNS settings. I have also used both DHCP setttings and Network->WAN to enter Unlocator's DNS settings. I am very close to returning the C7 and gettting another router that is proven to work like my old Linksys.
Have you gotten anywhere with your setup? Has anything worked or have you thrown in the towel as well?

I decided to wait for the DD-WRT firmware for this version of the TL-WR841N (v. 9.0) in the hope that IP routing tables could solve the problem. You're saying that you tried that and it doesn't work either?
