Model: Deco E4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: Latest

I live in a house with two floors, upstairs i've got my ISP Router connected with a coaxial cable straight that comes straight from the street. As the wifi signal downstairs is too weak, i decided to get myself one Deco, my idea was to install it downstairs, by passing an ethernet cable straight from my ISP Router to my Deco. I managed to install it like so and set up my Deco. Problem is, that when i go upstairs my devices do not connect to my router and still remain connecte to the Deco. The behaviour that i pictured in my head was what the mesh is marketed as: when i get closer to a device with a stronger signal, connect to it.

I want to know if it is possible to achieve this behaviour with the described setup, having my ISP Router act as a Deco, constituting a mesh of a total of 2 devices. I tried changing the Deco SSID to be exactly the same as my Router upstairs, without success. Also i tried enabling Fast Roaming and various other things.

My knowledge on networking is very limited, i'd be incredibly thankful if i can achieve the desired behaviour.

Thanks in advance, Ramiro.

  @Ramaa You have to use one more mesh unit to create seamless mesh connectivity in your house.

  @Ramaa

You can't mesh your deco to your ISP router but you can use your deco in AP mode to extend the WiFi your ISP router is providing. See the steps in this post https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1842/

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1

Oh okay, i will try this, it looks like what im looking for, my question is, now that i activated the AP mode, why do i have two different SSIDS? Shouldn't it be just one? To which should i connect?

  @Ramaa

I switched it to AP mode, then changed the Deco SSID to match my ISP Router's SSID, i've got an extremely weak connection as it seems its trying to connect to the router upstairs.
I disabled Smart DHCP, Enabled Fast Roaming and Beamforming... it wont work correctly

I thought it was possible to achieve this behaviour with just one Deco :(

  @Ramaa No one Deco is like just a simple WiFi router.
