I have found a reproducible issue when using a Deco X80-5G as the Main Deco together with a Deco X58-4G as a Mesh satellite.
The X80-5G is definitely still shown as the Main Deco after the X58-4G is added.
When the X80-5G is used by itself, everything works correctly:
The Mobile Network settings contain the normal 5G options.
The X80-5G successfully connects to One NZ 5G NSA.
The connection is typically LTE B3 + NR n78.
For example, NRARFCN is 633312 and the router clearly reports NR5G-NSA Band 78.
However, as soon as I add the X58-4G as a satellite Deco, the behaviour changes:
The X80-5G still remains the Main Deco.
The 5G options disappear completely from Mobile Network settings.
The available network modes become 4G/3G options only.
The X80 then actually stops connecting to n78 and falls back to 4G.
If I reset the Deco network and configure only the X80-5G again, the 5G options immediately return and the router connects to B3 + n78 again.
I have reproduced this more than once, so it does not appear to be a One NZ coverage issue or weak 5G signal.
Steps to reproduce
Factory reset the X80-5G.
Configure the X80-5G as Main Deco using a One NZ SIM.
Confirm that 5G options are available and that the X80 connects to B3 + n78.
Add an X58-4G to the same Deco network as a Mesh satellite.
Confirm that the X80-5G is still shown as Main Deco.
Open Mobile Network settings.
The 5G options have now disappeared and the cellular connection falls back to 4G.
Remove/reset the X58-4G and rebuild the network with the X80 alone.
5G options and n78 connectivity return.
Expected behaviour:
The cellular capabilities and network mode of the Main X80-5G should remain unchanged when a 4G-capable Deco is added only as a Mesh satellite.
Actual behaviour:
Adding the X58-4G satellite appears to make the Deco system adopt the X58's 4G cellular capability profile, which removes the X80-5G's 5G settings and causes the Main Deco to operate on 4G only.
This looks like a firmware / Deco capability-profile issue when mixing a 5G cellular Main Deco with a 4G cellular satellite Deco.
Could TP-Link engineering please try to reproduce this combination and advise whether a firmware fix or beta firmware is available?
I can provide screenshots, Deco logs and additional cellular information if required.
