While I can view my Tapo C200 through the mobile app, I would also like to use a PC to view it. Is there some way I can view it using my PC?

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your feedback and for sharing multiple ways to stream the camera, as Tapo camera supports RTSP and ONVIF (Profile S) protocol, here we would like to make a summary of some workarounds to stream the camera on a PC:

1. Stream the camera via RTSP using a third-party app like VLC Player or ONVIF software like iSpy, ONVIF Device Manager, etc.

How can I view my Tapo camera on PC through the RTSP stream?

  • RTSP is for streaming camera
  • ONVIF is for controlling or managing the camera, ONVIF software also uses RTSP for streaming
  • ONVIF Service Port: 2020
  • RTSP Service Port: 554

  • RTSP URL : rtsp:// camera IP Address:554/stream1
  • ONVIF URL: http://camera IP Address:2020/onvif/device_service
  • Example:  rtsp://192.168.0.118 :554/stream1

Some 3rd- party apps shared by forum users

  •  rtsp. me  share by @PuiuSoft
  • VXG Media Player in Chrome browser

2. Use an Android Emulator like Blue stack/ LDplayer4 to stream and control the camera, here is a guide shared by a forum user.

Stream Tapo Camera on PC through Android Emulator: LDPlay4 vs Bluestack

3. Stream the camera through Amazon or Google Smart Displays

Amazon/ Google smart display is required like Amazon Echo Show, Echo Spot, Fire TV  OR Google Home hub, TV with built-in Chromecast, etc.

Google:

4. Stream Camera Remotely on PC

1) Android Emulator is recommended

2) Through RTSP streaming:

  • Open the Port 554 & Port 2020 (RTSP and ONVIF service ) for the Tapo camera's IP on your home router firstFor reference, here is how to do port forwarding on tp-link router
  • Use the router's public IP to access the camera

RTSP URL : rtsp:// router WAN(public) IP address:554/stream1

ONVIF URL: http://router WAN(public) IP address:2020/onvif/device_service

    Note:  if there is any firewall or gateway in front of your router network, you will need to contact the ISP to get a real public IP address.

If you encounter some trouble when using the above method, please start a new thread with case details, and attach a photo of the error, so we can help look into that further.

Welcome to share more apps/ ways that you are currently using to stream or control the camera, we will keep this thread updated, thank you.

@Ojos Hi, you may refer to the instruction below to do some settings on the PC.

@Stella.Q Thank you that was pretty helpful. I haven't used iSpy before but I assume it's the recommended PC application for IP cameras? I have used VLC before for playing videos but wasn't aware it could be used with IP camera monitoring. A couple of questions of detail. I haven't installed iSpy yet but:

1 Does it support the C200 as I find searching their database a little tricky?

2 While I have the IP addresses of my cameras, the instructions mention " open the port 554 for the camera on your host router first.". What's the procedure for "opening a port"

@Ojos

You are welcome.

Yes, this camera support to stream the live view on iSpy, just follow the instruction I sent before.

Regarding open the port 554 on the router, you'd better contact your router support to do that, each router may have a different interface. For your reference, below is the instruction to open the port on our TP-Link router.

Have a good day.

@Korzar

I don't have a camera app for Windows 10. In the past I had older IP cameras and I could just use a web browser (no cost required) to view and manage them. When you say 350€.for iSpy is that 350 Euros and a one off cost? I was under the impression there is a free version. But if it actually costs 350 Euros that amounts to approximately the price of 10 new Tapo C200 cameras!

asking for a further €350 euro for software to make the thing usable is a complete piss take by TP link at the very least you should expect it to work on a PC as well as phone etc

It's on the ispyconnect website: "Our software is free to use locally. You can add as many cameras as you like. Secured web access, SMS, Twitter, email alerts, mobile device access and other services that require use of our online platform require a subscription or an annual payment." ispy is now forked to "agent dvr" which is better and also free for local use... u can make virtual server to outside on your route to reach it from outside

@thomi

Interestingly last week Korzar said that he found iSpy software costs 350€. So which is correct, free or 350€?

iSpy is free and open source. I have used it for a long time. It has premium features that are not free, but this is not needed to view cameras. If your computer is connected to a network different than the camera and you want to use iSpy, you have to configure your router and open the port 554 for the camera
