Model: Tapo C210
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I've recently installed one of these and seems ok.

However, there are a couple of issues.

One of which is that whenever the camera goes offline / powered off, it seems it needs to be connected to the internet to retrieve a time and date.  My other camera seems to store date & time locally (such as CMOS).  Not a major issue, but what if there's been a power cut and the camera hasn't been connected to the internet?  The times would be inaccurate - especially if you had detection recording setup?

My main issue however is the fact that there's only been one occasion when the camera has detected and recorded a mice roaming around (slow pace).  At all other times, my other branded camera detects and records without issue - sometimes even when the mice dashes across very quickly.  Otherwise the camera detects humans no problems.  Is this a known issue - what might I be doing wrong?  Activity area has been set properly and is also set to high sensitivity.

  @ItzMoi

Hi,
1. Thank you for your feedback about the time work mechanism, and I'll log the feedback and pass it along to the team to evaluate to improve the time work mechanism of the Tapo camera.
Generally, the camera should connect to a working router for normal use.

2. About the motion detection issue, you can refer to the link below to troubleshoot.
Motion Detection Is Not Working On TP-Link Camera

And please help confirm the following information for further analysis.
1) Please go to the Camera Settings page on the Tapo app>Detection&Alerts>Motion Detection page, and send me a picture of this page.
2) And please send me a picture of the Recording Schedule page.
3) How far are the mice and C210 when the mice roam in front of the Tapo C210?
4) May I have a video clip that displays the problem with the Tapo C210?
5) Please ensure the firmware version of the Tapo C210 and the Tapo app is up to date.

Best Regards

  @Solla-topee

Hi - thanks and appreciate your reply!

In answer to your questions:

1.  Motion detection are as expected - ON, high sensitivity and entire activity zone

2.  Recording schedule page is set to orange cells (record upon detection) - between 10pm and 6am

3.  The C210 is pointing towards the floor approximately 6ft above.  The other camera is a further 3 ft above this!

4.  A clip from the C210?  It hasn't really caught much.  It's just not picking up fast small moving objects; other camera is fine.  The C210 seems only to detect humans?

5.  I'm sure the app and firmware are up to date.

Thanks

  @ItzMoi

Hi,
Generally, the C210 will detect the movement within the activity zone. In this case, I'd like to escalate your case to the support engineers, and they will help follow it up, please check your inbox and respond.
Best Regards

It seems to be picking up dust particles and 'orbs' without issue if close enough to the lens.

I'd imagine around 2-3 feet?

With mice being around 3-4 inches in size and the lens being around 6 feet above, it's just not picking up, especially fast moving objects.  I know there's been activity, as it's picked up by my other cam without problems.

My current firmware is v1.0.2.76

My apologies. The firmware is actually version 1.3.0.

Thanks for your suggestions via messages, to which which I've responded.

As an experiment, I have also lower the C210 by 2.5 feet to see if that helps detection.  As expected, it picked up the mice a couple of times, but compared to the other camera (which is mounted approximately 5 ft higher), it's only detecting 30% of movement.

NOt sure if fine-tuning is needed in the firmware, as it does detect movement on humans, but I have my reservations of it being able to pick smaller fast-moving objects - especially if far way from the camera lens.

If I didn't have another camera to compare with, I'd be none the wiser and would have concluded no mice activity.

The solution I suppose is for your engineers to perform this test in your labs.

1.  Mount the camera around 6 feet above ground

2.  Tie a toy mouse (3 inches?) to a piece of string

3.  Pull the string at speed to drag the mouse across the activity zone to see if it gets detected from that height

4.  This is in night mode and tiled kitchen floor

As previously mentioned, dust particles / orbs / small flies are picked up without issue, but I'd imagine this is due to them being quite close to the lens.  This is what' has led me to perform my own experiment with lowering the camera towards the floor.

Thanks
