Hi Solla, I also have the same issue for the smart mode. The led lights doesnt turn on automatically during detection. Led turn on only using the button. Suggest if Tp link can revise the firmware. 
 

My issue is only this only the smart mode. Everything else is working fine

Hi bro, I dont have any issues except for the smart mode. I am using Sandisk High Endurance 512gb.. maybe its your SD card that is giving the problem? Or maybe the camera is near something that is radiating RF? 
 

Probably try change the sd card? I am just trying to help 👍🏼

If you have a microSD card inserted into the camera, please refer to the instructions below to collect the camera log, and let me know once you have collected it.

If you can cooperate to locate the reported issue, it would be highly appreciated.

1. If you have selected Smart Mode but the spotlight does not turn on when the camera detects an event, does the camera work in the Night mode and present a black and white image on the Live View page?

 

2. Can you turn on the spotlight manually on the camera's Live View page?

 

3. If you have an SD card inserted into the camera, please help collect the camera log for further analysis.
How to get the log of Tapo Camera?

  Same story here. Day after buying and installing my C520ws.The smart mode refused to work, despite events being acknowledged. Light will go on manually, everything else is working as it should. Came across this thread while trying to solve the issue.

Hi,
Please go to the Tapo app>camera's Device Settings>Detection page and check if the Auto Tracking/Motion Tracking feature is enabled.
If so, disable this feature and check if the spotlight will turn on automatically in Smart Mode when detecting events at night.

same story with motion tracking off.

IR is working and also led light if switched manually on and off.

At the moment I can't remove SD card for the log file, I will do It as soon as I can.
