The Tapo C720's floodlight provides users with powerful nighttime illumination and intelligent control, helping to enhance the utility and security of surveillance cameras.

Here are three effective methods to activate the floodlight.

Method 1:  Manual Control

To turn the floodlight on and off, tap the Light icon on the Tapo C720's Live View page.

On the camera's Device Settings > Floodlight Settings > Auto Off Timer page:

  • Enable Timer: If you enable the Auto Off Timer and set a specific off time, the floodlight will automatically turn off after the set time once activated manually.
  • Disable Timer: If the Auto Off Timer is disabled, the floodlight will remain on continuously until you manually turn it off.

Method 2: Detection-Based Activation

The floodlight can also activate automatically when the camera detects events.

On the Tapo app > Tapo C720's Device Settings > Floodlight Settings > Auto On Settings page, you can choose to activate the floodlight based on Sensors and/or Cameras.

For Sensors: The floodlight will turn on if the camera’s PIR sensor detects motion. You can configure the Detection Area and Sensitivity.

For Cameras: The floodlight activates when the camera's algorithm detects activity within the frame. You can adjust Detection Zones, Detection Types, and Sensitivity accordingly.

Notes:
1. The detected events trigger the floodlight only if ambient light is below the threshold built into the camera.

2. You can go to the camera's Device Settings > Floodlight Settings > Auto On Duration page to set the ON duration (the default is 1 minute; the minimum is 15 seconds). The floodlight will remain on for the set time after being activated by events.

3. If a new event is detected while an event activates the floodlight, the floodlight light will stay on, and the ON duration will reset.

Method 3. Schedule Control

On the Tapo app > Tapo C720's Device Settings > Floodlight Settings > Floodlight Schedule page, you can set a specific schedule to turn on the floodlight.

Notes:
1. The schedule isn't affected by ambient light. The floodlight will turn on at the scheduled time regardless of light conditions.
2. You can activate the floodlight based on sunset and sunrise times or set a customized schedule.

Hybrid Usage Scenario Notes:

Turning On the Floodlight
Any of the three methods above can activate the floodlight.

Turning Off the Floodlight
Manual Control overrides the Detection-Based Activation and Schedule Control.
After the floodlight turns off, it will only turn on again if any of the three methods take effect.
