Tapo C225: Pet-Only Auto Tracking Works Without Motion Detection
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a finding regarding the Tapo C225 camera that may be useful for those who want silent, pet-only monitoring without motion-triggered recordings for other objects.
🔧 What I Tested:
-
Pet Detection: ON
-
Auto Tracking (Pet Only): ON
-
Motion Detection:
ON from 23:31, Jun 28, 2025
OFF from 19:40, Jun 29, 2025
✅ Result:
-
The camera continues to auto-track pets even after Motion Detection is OFF.
-
It does not follow humans or other moving objects.
-
Only pets are recorded. Humans and other motion events are not recorded.
-
This setup is ideal for people who want to monitor pets without false alerts or unnecessary video clips.
💡 Key Insight:
It seems that enabling Motion Detection once may “activate” internal tracking behavior that continues, even after turning it off—as long as Pet Detection and Auto Tracking (Pet Only) remain ON.
📌 Notes:
-
This behavior may depend on the firmware or app version.
-
I recommend testing this setup again after any app or firmware updates.
Let me know if anyone else can replicate this. It could be a helpful workaround for pet owners!
