Early Access Tapo Smart Bulb Reset Method Update -- Reducing Bulb Resets Due to Unstable Power Supply
This Article Applies To
All Tapo Smart Bulbs, except the following models:
1. Bluetooth-configured models like Tapo L430, Tapo L730, Tapo L901-6, Tapo L550
2. Tapo L510(EU) 1.0
3. Tapo L530(EU) 1.0
Description
Tapo smart bulbs have received an update that makes them harder to accidentally reset due to brief power interruptions.
The new reset methods are listed as follows:
- Soft Reset (Reset WiFi settings): Perform 5 consecutive “Off + On” cycles via the physical switch
- Factory reset: Perform 10 consecutive “Off + On” cycles via the physical switch
Specifically:
1. Turn the smart bulb to the On state.
2. Power it off via the physical switch, then turn it back on > one off&on cycle.
3. Repeat Step 2 five or ten times, with 1-second pause in between each off&on cycle.
Important Notes
1. This change has been delivered via firmware updates to most supported models. If your bulb is on the latest firmware but continues to reset frequently, please provide your device’s model, hardware version, and firmware version in a comment and tag @Wayne-TP to verify if your specific variant is covered.
2. While the update reduces accidental resets, regularly using a physical wall switch to turn the bulb on/off still carries a risk of resetting it. For the most reliable operation, we recommend using the Tapo app for control.
3. For the Bluetooth-configured models, 5 off&on cycles will factory reset the bulb.

@Wayne-TP I have literally 60 bulbs + 4 Strips + 12-15 dimmer switches + the hub. The strips seems to be stable, but for the bulbs I will probably make a scene in the shop I bought, this is terrible terrible experience. Every X days I reconnect so many bulbs so I gave up, it is exausting, What a waste of money, the worst investment I’ve ever made.
When is the final version of the firmware planned to be released so I can connect them for the last time before returning them back and moving to another brand?
P.S. Is there any batch or mass assignment method, to speed up the process of re/connecting 50-60 bulbs, it takes 1-2 minutes per device if it succeds from first try, but for some bulbs sometimes you need to try multiple times to reconnect.

@Wayne-TP is very got 54 of these bulbs through out my home and now I am upto 11 of them I am unable to reset. They just blink every 3 seconds. If I try reset them, whether the 3 or 5 seconds method, they never reset and I am unable to connect to them so have no way of pushing new firmware across
I contacted Tp link about 6 months ago but they said the wouldn't replace as I don't have the original packaging!
Any ideas??

As moderators in a global forum, i'm afraid we are unable to assist matters related to local policy, such as the product warranty. It is advisable to maintain communication with the local support team.

We don't have information about the release plan. You may keep an eye on product firmware release info (product's Support page > Firmware Release Note section) on the TP-Link official website. The information will be updated once a new firmware starts to release. TP-Link Download Center
