Model: Tapo D235
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0

Just wanted to share my battery usage results after following @Wayne-TP advice from this article, wondering everyone elses experience and expectations.

SUMMARY:

- Install Date (100% Charge): 12/09/2025
- Recharge Date: 10/10/2025 (Battery Remaining: 9%)
Total Usage: 28 days (So roughly a month to 0%)

I’ve tried to follow the battery drain recommendations closely, and I’ve attached screenshots showing the summary of usage for transparency.

From what I’m seeing, its not even close to reaching the 210 days advertised, even with the suggested optimisations. I’m a bit on the fence about being told to limit or disable almost all features to improve battery life, almost feels like a waste of money to sacrifice features/quality for longevity.

Even when using all the features, the image and performance are 'ok' (Not quite on par with our 2K C120, and competitiors 2K doorbell cams which might have raised my expectations a bit). Obvioulsy I have an ongoing investigation on the 4 second blip, so maybe I have a bad batch. If yours is amazing please share, and if its a matter of wired/wireless difference, I would have quite like to have been informed before purchase, like a small print.

Unfortunately, due to rental restrictions I can’t have it wired for now, but I love the option to switch to wired if that ever becomes possible.

Anyway, I was just wondering if this level of battery performance is normal or mutually agreed on higher expectations based on your experience.

Settings Used:

  • Quality: 2K 5MP
  • Frame Rate: 15/20 FPS (Auto)
  • Detection: Person and motion detection only from the path up to the doorway (no trees or obstacles), wake-up sensitivity appropriatley set to 8 after testing
  • Package Detection: On (just in case)
  • Infrared Mode: Medium, Detection Tag
  • Spotlight Setting: 3, white
  • Firmware: Fully up to date, anti theft alarm ARMED.

Thanks for reading :)

Talking of quality.

Is this the expected quality, or should it be sharper?

I understand there are environmental factors taken into account, but with my current settings and bandwidth shared on this and the other post, performance should be optimal.

So, is this as good as it gets, or am I missing out on something?
